Was it the chicken or the egg that came first?
In the year where my life was changing
I could no longer care
I was just glad that both the chicken and the egg were here,
how else would I have had an omelette as part of my hangover cure from the night before
The last night with my girls going wild in London city!
We all knew that our lives were changing but just like the chicken question it was far at the back of our minds as the drinks were flowing and the music blaring.
I met a boy named Faraz in the year my life was changing,
No, he was not the love of my life
He was just my friend
A light-hearted boy with a moustache
Seeing him showed me how much I suppressed everything
He lived lightly, I had to let go of some baggage just to keep up
I must write him an I.O.U next year.
In the year where my life was changing
I cried, I felt Gods Grace, I saw His face in many faces
It made me question whether I was a sorrowful sinner living in a wonderful world
Or was I a wonderful sinner living in a sorrowful world.
I do not which way is right but I know that people come and that people go
What makes it sad is when you want them to stay and blindly believe they will.
It used to be hard waking up every morning, sometimes I wished I wouldn't
but in the year when my life was changing waking up became okay
On the bus home,
In a new city
In the year when my life was changing
I was taught that love is fleeting
And that all I ever wanted is to be impossibly happy.

- When I was writing this poem I was reflecting on a very odd year for me. the year I became 18 and started university, which was a huge personal accomplishment, and just looking at how much I changed in a very chaotic year. I learnt a lot that year about myself and the world but most importantly it made me a calmer person as now I'm able to cope when the bad times come and enjoy the good ones much more.
