Effie slumped against the tree lazily. The branches of the giant oak tree covered the sun and made a huge shadow over Effie. It was a dusky evening, and Effie still had not gone home when she was meant to an hour ago. "My legs are dead. I'm too tired " she thought to herself, breathing heavily. She searched her bag, hoping she brought food, but all hope was killed when she turned her bag upside down and shook it - nothing came out. "I forgot to bring food, ugh" Effie groaned. She sat there against the tree with her stomach growling. But suddenly, there was a whoosh! in the bushes. Effie jumped up in fright. The bushes moved, then it stopped. Effie sighed in relief. "Maybe it's just the wind" she told herself. But little did she know, it was not the wind at all.

Effie refused to go home. She had had a fight with her mother, and it ended badly. Suddenly, out of nowhere, Effie spotted a shadow in the grass. It was the shadow of a very, very tall person, way taller than the normal human size. It had long claws that could kill a human just like how a knife could kill someone. Whatever this frightful creature was - it was not human. But Effie did not run away; she gathered all the bravery in her and crawled closer to the shadow. The closer she moved, the further the shadow went. "It's moving" thought Effie. Her heart started beating heavily. She didn't dare say a word, or she would give it all away. "Peek a boo, I see you..." the shadow whispered darkly. Effie lost all bravery and screamed. The creature revealed itself. It was tall and its claws were hanging heavily. Its face was pitch black and so was its entire body. Its legs and arms were like twigs. It looked just like a stickman with huge claws - it was the Spirit of the Dead ghost. Effie got up on her feet, but the ghost struck her with its hand. Effie floated up in the air with electricity going through her. The ghost was possessing the poor girl, forcing her to join the dead. All colour faded out of her. "Effie! Effie?" a voice suddenly yelled from a good distance away. The ghost stopped the spell and quickly whispered to her:

"You will be cursed each time the full moon is up, until you find true love."

And with that, the Spirit of the Dead ghost disappeared into thin air. Before Effie's mother found her, Effie blacked out and lay there in the forest with her eyes shut and no breath coming out of her nose and mouth.
