I heard footsteps coming down the stairs as light flooded to dark room. I lifted my head up to see the bulky man walking towards me. My eyes stung as I saw light for the first time in days or weeks. Ever since I started a fire at the market. It wasn't my fault really. I tried to protect myself from the stall owner after stealing food.
"Can't use your sorcery to get out of those chains, can ya?" he said punching me. It didn't hurt me by now. Especially when you don't even know when now is.
"Can I ask you something?" I muttered.
"Go ahead, won't matter anyways after you're dead," he replied.
"How can you...do this to an 11 year old girl. I didn't even hurt anyone,"
"Actually the townsfolk are saying today's your birthday. And don't even act like you were trying not to hurt him. Said you almost killed him and everyone near him witch," he told me as two other men came down the stairs. So today's February 7th. Would explain the chills I've been getting down here. Winters about.
"Unchain her, its time for her execution," he told the two men. I tried to restrain against them, but I've barely had anything since I was put down here.
"Hold still witch girl," one said before hitting me. Suddenly I realized that I was about to die. This was it. Almost the same power as before flooded my body again unexpectedly and push forward. I hit the man who hit me earlier and turned to the other two.
"NO!" I screamed reaching out. I shoved both of them out of the way and ran out of the room. It wasn't until I looked back that I noticed they weren't there anymore. All that remained was piles of ash that blew away when a gust from the door came.

"Beth, you can take a seat behind Seth," my newest teacher said pointing to my spot. "Also I see today's your birthday. Why don't you tell everyone how old you are,"
"I'm a thou-16, I'm 16 this year,"I stuttered rather embarrassed as I screwed up. I tripped on a backpack as I was about to sit down knocking some kids papers off her desk. Last time I went to school was something like 10 years ago. Everything's just a little newer, nothing to be nervous I thought to myself.
"So where are you from?" the guy in front of me asked. Seth from what his school ID said.
"My family moves around a lot so I'm not really from anywhere," I lied. Truth is, I haven't seen my family since I escaped all those years ago. First thing I did was get out of there. Moved to the Southern Song area of China and in a few years managed to join their Navy somehow.
"I wish my family moved around sometimes, every since my mom and brother were in an accident I've just been here since. Especially after my dads taken to drinking," he said. He's trying to flirt I realized listening to the tone in his voice. I can tell he doesn't really care much because he feels like he,s the boss of things now.
"I'm sorry about your mom and brother. I'm sure your dad will get better soon enough though," I told him.
"What? I never said anything about my family you freak. The hells wrong with you?" he replied before turning back to the front of the room and quickly spreading what just happened. I realized that he had put his hand on my arm and he never said any of that. Just thought it. Damn it. Of course the first guy that talks to me has to be a flirtatious jock. The rest of class went on as a drag seeing how I knew everything already. I still went to college just not well in awhile.
When the bell rang I had almost forgotten that I came to school during the last period of the day. I opened my locker when I sensed someone was looking at me. I looked to the right and saw a kid from my class walking towards me. I think roll call said his name was Leo.
