It's now June. Been about 2 months since Sarah left me. I hardly left my room once school ended and the shades were always closed. I've been getting a lot of criticism for acting like this. Even Luke is out and hanging out with friends. Not as talkative, but still getting out. Luke stopped talking to me, saying that I reminded him too much of Sarah. I couldn't blame him.
"Alexandria Marie Black!" My moms voice boomed from downstairs, making me flinch. I heard heavy footsteps and my door was swung open. My mother stood illuminated in the doorway.
"Yes? Mom." I sat up slowly as she walked to the window and threw open the shades.
"We're going to the pool. And you're coming with. Get dressed." She didn't leave me time to protest, Just threw my swimming suit at me and marched out of the room. I sighed and lay back down.
"I miss you Sarah. Why did you leave me all alone?" Fresh tears started to well up in my eyes. I had just sat up when a piece of paper came fluttering down, seemingly out of nowhere. Cautiously I picked it up off the floor. I unfolded the piece of paper, and on it were 3 simple words.
I'm. Still. Here.
I sat blinking at it for a few minutes trying to comprehend. The writing style was ornate and intricate. Neat, and kind of old fashioned. At first I thought it was Sarah, but that wasn't her hand writing. So, who is it?
"Alexandria!!" Now it was my father's turn to chastise me.
"Be down in a second!" Quickly I stripped down and put on my bikini. Over that I wore short jeans shorts, and a T-shirt that hung off one shoulder. I basically sprinted down the stairs and saw my family waiting for me. My 2 younger brothers were poking each others arms, and my parents were patiently waiting. Once my shoes were on they were already out the door.
On my way out I stopped at a picture of my mother's ultrasound when she was pregnant with me and my sister. We were twins. But she died in labor. I blew a kiss to her and walked into the sun.
I felt the warm rays of light touch my ghostly pale skin, and for the first time in forever felt some joy. Maybe this was what I needed. Just some time with friends, and sun. Hell, I might even start talking to Luke again.
The pool was packed, as I thought it would be. Little kids were running and yelling. Teenagers were laying in the sun tanning, or on their phones. The elderly were sitting in the shade or by the edge of the pool. It was a type of chaotic peace, watching the scene unfold in front of me.
I took off my clothes and sat by the pool, dipping only my feet and ankles in the cool water. Gently kicking my legs I felt the gentle push and pull of the water. It was soothing, and put me in a dream like trance. My body was getting unnaturally warm, but I didn't move.
Suddenly I was covered in water, and it felt like it was simmering on my back. At first I thought I had fallen into the water, then a shadow appeared above me. I turned around and there was Luke, smiling down at me like a god.
