a familiar Lullaby

.

.

I awoke again to singing

A familiar lullaby

A voice so beautiful

It would make angels cry

.

I sat up in my bed

To gaze upon the sight

My wife and darling daughter

Glowing by candlelight

.

Her eyes were forever on

The angel that silently lay

Held lovingly in her arms

As she so slightly swayed

.

As always, the lullaby ended

She kissed our daughter's cheek

Looked at me and smiled

"Our angel is finally asleep"

.

We sat silently for a moment

Until she said, "We have to go"

I nodded, forced a smile

Said, "I love you both so"

.

And as they slowly faded

Tears filled my eyes

Why must I go on living?

After both my angels died

.

I feel like ending it all

Every now and then

But I keep going, for the next time

My angels visit me again
