Lucinda woke up with a small smile on her face, her eyes shining for a brand new day. Today was not a particularly special day, but that did not faze Lucinda's joy. You see Lucinda was always abnormally happy every morning she would wake up ready for a new adventure. Some would call her a morning person.

Lucinda Skye Salvatore was the daughter of Giuseppe and Mary Salvatore. Her father was one of the founding members in mystic falls which gave him some many privileges as a land owner. Lucinda's mother was a house wife which many people in those days were, her mother died of consumption when she was 3 years old. Growing up without a mother took a large toll on Lucinda sure she had a nanny and a maid, but there was no mother figure in her life.

But this didn't faze her, she woke up every morning with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her young blueish-grey eyes. But what she did have instead was two older brothers who worshiped at her every command. All it would take was a small pout of the lips and they would come running.

Damon had been more of a father figure to Lucinda when growing up, after their mothers death. Giuseppe would lock himself inside his room for many months. Damon had been the one to teach Lucinda the one to show her how to walk on two feet, how to ride a horse. He had been there to wipe her tears when someone tripped her over during the many parties the town threw.

Then there was Stefan, her best friend, they would sit together in the library talking about how they felt about particular things that went on in their everyday life. They kept each other company when their father would keep them in the house after night fall.

October 1, 1864

Lucinda eyed herself in the mirror, which sat on the dresser in front of her. She smiled at her reflection as she brushed her long black hair that she had inherited from her mother. Her bluish-grey eyes shining in excitement.

She spotted her oldest brother Damon walking up from behind her. His eyes which where the same colour as hers sparkling in the same kind of excitement which adorned Lucinda's. He wrapped his arms around her lovingly as they had done when they were kids. Laughing Lucinda turned around to face her brother.

"Damon," she cried happily and hugged him around the neck, Damon laughed at her eagerness.

"Happy Birthday Lucinda," he said reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small box from his pocket.

"You remembered," she gasped taking the gift from his hand.

"Of cause I did, you could you think I could have forgotten my own sisters 16th birthday." He said smirking, Lucinda's face fell slightly.

"Well I thought with the whole impressing Katherine incident, you may have forgotten." she whispered, Damon pulled Lucinda into a tight hug.

"I will never, ever forget you Lucinda. I will always remember you even when I'm old like father." he said Lucinda smiled.

"Which is why, you will be spending the day with me and... Stefan. No Katherine, I promise," he said holding his pinky out. Lucinda looked at it prolonging the moment before breaking out into a smile and joining her pinky to his.

"Ok," she agreed smiling, they shook on it. These promises Damon made were never meant to be broken.

"Good, now open your gift," he said both his eyes and mouth twitching. Lucinda smiled and tore off the wrapping, she gasped. Inside the box sat a golden necklace, the pendant that hang was three hearts that sat inside one another. the outer heart was gold, the middle heart was silver and the tiny heart which sat in the very centre was bronze.

"Damon, this must have cost a fortune, last time I checked Father never gave you so much as a penny." She said staring at the pendant in her hand.

"That's for me to know and you to never find out." Lucinda giggled at her brothers vague words. "The hearts represent each of us Salvatore children the outer layer of gold for me. The good looking one" Lucinda laughed lightly at her brothers vain words as Damon grinned, "The silver one for Stefan as he is the middle child and the smartest in this family, and then the little bronze one for you, you are both the youngest, the prettiest and also know that you will always be in the centre of our hearts." Lucinda had adorned her brothers kindness and found that she wanted to be just like him, both kind and forgiving, she hoped that would never change.
