As the creature and the Warrior advanced towards the gates, slowly, the Warrior realized how big the gates actually were. They were bigger than the King’s castle! The Warrior stood in awe at the scene.
The gates seemed to be made of a dark black stone, possibly obsidian. They were far too high for anyone to climb over and way too thick to break through. Stones of all kinds were encrusted in the gates doors. The Warrior noticed that at each side of the gate, end to end, stood tall guards holding swords and lists. Each of the guards all looked dead and decaying. One guard, to the far right, was missing half of its face. The Warrior noticed that they were all blocking the entrance into the next room. Then he noticed that he and the creature were walking towards one.
As they walked towards the gate, the creature nodded towards the guard blocking the entrance and grunted, and immediately the guard moved aside. The creature then looked at the Warrior, then to his sign and said, “Leave that behind. You won’t be needing that.” So, the Warrior did as he was told. Then he and the creature went through the gate and entered the next room, which was absolutely nothing like the other one.
It was a dismal, emotionless room, which was dimly lit by torches. In front of the room sat several throne-like chairs and in them were what seemed to be judges. Each judge was a different species. Most of them, the Warrior had never seen before but there were a few that were familiar. Most of the species here, the Warrior had fought against in his past battles. He only knew one of them by name. The one in the middle was a Chimera. This was shocking to the Warrior since they were supposed to be extent. He’d never seen one before but his grandfather used to tell him stories of the courageous beast. Kingdoms and tribes from all over the land tried to ally-up with the legendary species in wars, but they refused. The chimeras were neutral beasts and rarely engaged in any conflict. The Warrior found it an honor to be in the presence of one.
They judges didn’t seem to take much notice to him. In fact, they didn’t seem to notice he was even there. They were all studying files or chatting with one another. No one seemed to notice he was there. Maybe he needed to talk first, he thought to himself. But before he could even utter a word, the creature turned and said, “You won’t be meeting with them. You see, they only acknowledge the dead and you aren’t quite dead.” And with that, the Creature kept walking. The Warrior didn’t understand what he meant. He felt himself depart from his body, so he must be dead, right? The Warrior felt like asking, but he knew he wouldn’t get a response back. So, he had to follow the Creature in hopes that this “Master” knew what he was.
They walked past the judges, who still paid no remark to him, and headed towards a big door. As the Warrior and the Creature were heading towards the Master, it turned to him and said, “You know, you don’t talk much, for a human. I’ve seen many humans and they couldn’t keep their mouths shut for one minute! I’ve been here for many centuries, watching war after war, and soul after soul come down here. Each and every one of them seemed miserable to be here surrounded by unimaginable tortures and unknown beasts, but you appear to be quite calm with all of this.” The Warrior in return shook his head and chuckled. The Creature then said to him, “A man of few words is alright with me!” and with that, he led the Warrior towards the huge, mysterious door behind they judges that paid no remark.
