I wake up with start, my head clouded with the nightmares of the night my fiancée died. The memories burnt into my mind. The sound of screeching tires and crumpling metal, the pain in my body only eclipsed by the emotions that run in my head. The final blow is seeing the red blood seeping from my beloved Serena's chest.
Taking notice of the bright morning sun peeping through my curtains, I get up slowly from the bed and remember how Serena loved the apartment we bought together. I here a voice calling and a sharp knocking on the door. Still tired, I shuffle over to the door.
Pulling it open, I'm met with the frown of my best friend, James de Los Santos. I can tell he's a little more than pissed off. I open my mouth to say something, but he beats me to it.
"Hey Tom." He says trying to mask the slight tone of anger. "You're late." I turn my head to check the clock, and it's already ten-thirty.
Sighing, he says, "Well you better hurry up." He starts walking away slowly, I start to close the door, before he suddenly tells me something.
"By the way, you have been assigned to another case. I've understand you haven't worked on one since Serena died, but don't worry it's not so big. Just, stay safe okay." He tells me before going down the stairs. Closing the door behind me, I get ready for another day as Thomas Denham, inspector and broken man.
