It was a normal Day in The San Diego Orphanage. Cries of babies rang throughout the building. Young boys and girls ran through the building as various caretakers tried to quiet the babies and stop the children from running. As for anyone older than 10, they usually stayed in their rooms with their roommates. Most of the older teens were trying to stop the younger children or making meals, or helping with the babies. Three girls sat alone in their room, which was located on the far corner of the building. They were painting the walls when the call came.
"Girls, there are some men who would like to interview you." Said Ms. Gardener, knocking on the door frame. The three girls looked up from what they were doing. One, the blonde one, was perched on her tip toes, painting something on the wall. Another with ombrè hair, looked up from her place on the dusty wooden floor. The last, sitting on one of the old, iron bunk beds set down her paint brush in a cup of water and stood up.
"Okay," The girl said as the other two put down their paint brushes and stood up, following Ms. Gardener out the door and down the stairs. The interview rooms were aligned against a wall. Ms. Gardener instructed each girl into a room, shutting the door behind them.
Savannah, a blonde girl, carefully sat down in the chair, in front of one of the men. The man has auburn colored hair, a blue shirt fading into purple. On top of his hair was a black fedora.
"Hi, I'm Patrick," the lively man said, sticking out his hand.
"I'm Savannah," The girl replied, shaking his hand.
"Tell me about yourself." Patrick said.
Jaden, a tall girl with dark hair, entered the room and sat down in the chair across the table from the man. The man had on a black suit with a white shirt. He had dark hair and a warm smile.
"I'm Pete." The man introduced himself, Holding out his hand.
"Jaden." The girl replied, taking his hand.
"Jaden, that's a beautiful name. Tell me about you." Pete said, maintaining his smile.
Allie, a blue-green eyed girl, walked into the room and stood in front of the chair. Across the table from her were two men. One was dark haired with brown eyes, the other red-haired with lots of tattoos.
"Hi, I'm Joe and this is Andy." The man with dark hair said.
"Hi, I'm Allie." Said the girl, with a blue flower crown in her hair.
"Sit down and tell us about yourself." Andy said kindly. The girl sat down.
At the end of the interviews, the three girls were send outside to the benches. The other children were interviewed and the men were given a few minutes to decide which child would be best. The three girls sat on one bench, talking quietly, praying they wouldn't be separated. Savannah was called first and brought back into the room with Patrick. Patrick broke the news to her, hugging her and telling her to get her stuff. Savannah came back out and her friends congratulated her. Jaden was called up next and went into the room with Pete in it.
"Hey kiddo, I think you'll be a perfect fit in my little family." He said, hugging her. The girl replied by hugging him. Jaden returned to her seat, telling her friends. Allie was called lastly into the room with Andy and Joe. She walked in wearily. Joe and Andy walked up to her. Joe took her hand and told her, "I think you're perfect for us." They hugged her. She walked out with tears in her eyes. Her friends hugged her,
"I guess we'll be together after all." Said Savannah as the three of them walked up the stairs and gathered the few things they owned out of the small closet in the dull room. The three of them, one at a time, walked down the squeaky staircase and walked into the lobby of the orphanage, which was as dull as their bedroom. Patrick, Pete, Andy and Joe were sitting in the chairs, watching the door expectantly. Apon Seeing the girls walk in, they stood up and walked over to them, all seven smiling. Pete took Jaden by the hand and walked out the door, talking quietly to her:
"So, Jaden, I am absolutely thrilled to have adopted you, you are beautiful and seem like a great kid, but I must warn you, about, well two things, one, when we walk out that door, we will be spammed by paparazzi and, two, I have a son, he's five."
"Okay, Pete, thanks for the warning." Jaden said, laughing at his nervousness. Savannah and Patrick had started walking behind Pete and Jaden.
"So, are you married, Patrick?" Savannah asked. Patrick smiles,
"No, I have a girlfriend, but I'm not sure when I'll ask her to marry me." Patrick replied, face turning a pale shade of pink.
Savannah replied with a giggle, "what's her name?"
"Elisa. I hope you like her." Patrick continued, "PS when we walk outside we'll probably be swarmed by paparazzi." Savannah smiled.
Andy, Joe, and Allie walk hand in hand behind the others. Allie was in the middle, with one man one either side.
"I know living on the road is hard but I think you'll adjust just fine to it," Joe was saying.
"Yeah," Allie giggled, "It's probably better than being stuck here."
"So, uh, the paparazzi is probably outside, do you want to wear my sunglasses so they can't see your face?" Andy spoke up as they neared the door.
"Yeah, if you don't mind." Allie said quietly. Andy took off his sunglasses and placed them carefully on her face. She smiled and looked up at him,
"How do I look?"
"Beautiful." Andy replied with a smile. They kept walking towards the door. Andy shaded his eyes as they neared the flashes of the cameras. Pete pulled Jaden closer and opened the door. Patrick did the same and followed him out the door. Joe pulled me towards him and Andy held open the door.
"On the count of three, run up to Patrick." Joe started, "one-two-three." Joe let go of my hand and I ran at full speed up to Patrick. He hustled me under his other arm and looked down, nodding. Joe and Andy appeared at either side of us, fighting back the crowd. It wasn't a very large crowd, but they all wanted to be super close.
Finally, after what seemed like forever, we made it to the van. I sat in between Joe and Andy. Patrick and Savannah and Pete and Jaden sat in front of us.
"What just happened?" Jaden asked.
"Paparazzi just happened." Pete said, "but don't worry. We are going to go to my house now, which is in a gated community so they won't be there."
"Oh okay." Jaden replied. Everyone made small talk until the car stopped about twenty minutes later.
