My sleep was disrupted as the alarm began blearing into my ear. I didn't even bother trying to find the snooze button as I slept through the sound. It eventually faded into an annoying hum. Footsteps padded down the hall as my door started to creak open. The light from the hall flooded the room as I heard my mum's familiar voice say, "Get up, babe. You have work today." I threw my other pillow towards the general direction of her voice.

"But, I don't wanna go, mum."

"You have to. Now let's go." She flipped the lightswitch on before making her way downstairs. I rolled off of my bed and finally shut the stupid alarm clock up. I flipped my tangled hair out of my face and started my way towards the bathroom. I turned the water on as hot as it would go before stripping my clothes off and throwing them sloppily onto the floor. I stepped into the stream of water, and the heat instantly woke me up. I let the water run down my face for several minutes before shampooing my hair to rid it of all the tangles. I followed with a little conditioner to make it easier to brush. Quickly, I pulled the curtain back and wrapped myself into a plush, yellow towel. I felt my skin dry out as I curled my toes into the bath mat under my feet. Wrapping the towel around my head, I pulled on a dark pair of skinny jeans followed by a pair of brown sandals. I unwrapped my hair as I began to gently pull a brush through the mess. I put on my most comfortable bra coupled with my favorite pink blouse. Walking right past the blow dryer, I plugged the straigtener in and began doing my hair. Soon enough my hair was completely dry, but it sitll had a few waves left in it. They didn't bother me, so I walked downstairs without putting on any make-up.

"You've better get going, Kaylen."

"Mum, I know," the annoyance obviously present in my voice. I grabbed my keys off of the counter along with a granola bar for the road.

I parked my beat-up navy jeep in my usual spot as I practically ran through the door of the small coffee shop that I worked at. My boss, Bill, glared at me as he tossed me the apron with Westly Coffee Co written across the front. I sloppily tied the knot against my back as I took my station behind the counter. A man with a walker slowly approached the counter. I gave him a small smile. "What can I get for you today, sir?"

"Um, can I have a blueberry muffin with a small black coffee?"

"Yes, you may." He handed me his credit card, and I swiped it through the machine without looking at the bill. I handed him the recipt and his muffin with a smile. "Your coffee will be ready right over there in a few moments," I said as I pointed to the left, towards the exit.

The rest of the day was fairly slow, which made me extremely relieved when my shift was over. On my way towards the door, I threw the annoying apron back at my boss. I was a step from the door as I heard the familiar bells jingle, but it wasn't me that had pushed it open. I looked up to see who was entering the small shop, but before I could stop myself I bumped into the man. "I'm so sorry-y," I stammered as I tried to move around him and make my way out the door. Before I could leave, he grabbed my wrist as I heard a familair voice question, "Kitty, is that you?"
