I woke up the next morning, my mind slightly foggy of what had happened the day before. I lifted my head up to see that I was in Peter's apartment and that it was nearly 11:00 o'clock which means that Peter had already left for work. I ran my hands through my hair and let out a breath of air as I walked towards the kitchen. Opening the cabinet, I grabbed the box of Frosted Flakes from the shelf and proceeded to get a bowl. As I ate my cereal in silence, my phone began to vibrate uncontrolably. I glanced down to see 7 new messages from my mum. I opened them and read the list that consisted of *kaylen, where are you?*
*are you coming home tonight?*
*hello?*
*are you there?*
*please answer*
*i'm getting worried*
*do i have to call peter?*
*get your ass home, missy*
I sighed as I shot her a quick message back saying that I had fallen asleep at Peter's, but I would be home in about a half hour or so. She quickly answered me back, but I didn't bother to open the message. Tossing the bowl in the sink, I swiftly grabbed my keys off the counter and headed out the door, not even bothering to lock it.
I attempted to quietly open my front door, but it made a terrible squeaking noise and my mum was at the door almost immediately. "Where were you, Kaylen Marie?"
"I already told you that I fell asleep at Peter's."
"Were you at least using protection?"
"We didn't even do anything and besides I'm 19 years old so it's none of your business."
"As long as you're living under my roof, it is my business."
"Fine," I puffed as I walked up the stairs to my room. I flipped my phone out of my back pocket and texted Niall. He responded almost right away, and we made plans to grab lunch in an hour or so. I smiled a little to myself at the cute way he puncuated his messages. I pulled on my favorite pair of skinny jeans with black boots and my favorite mint green sweater. Without even thinking about it, I pulled my hair into a messy bun and jogged back down the stairs. Sitting down on the couch, I turned the tv on and flipped through the channels.
"Are you going somewhere?" My mum questioned as she sat down on the couch next to me.
"Yeah. Niall's taking me out for lunch."
"Niall? He's back?"
"Yeah. I ran into him at work the other day. I think that's him now," I motioned at the door as I started to get up. Quickly, I ran outside and leaned against the porch railing. Talking with my mum was just so exhausting. I had to watch every little thing that I said to her. To my surprise, Niall's car rolled up to the curb, fifteen minutes earlier than he said he was coming.
"This is the first time you've ever been early in your life," I said with a grin plastered across my face.
"There was a special someone that I wanted to see. I might as well start making up for those two years now. Anyway, we're just going to a little pub to get a burger or something. Sound good?"
"Sounds like a plan, Stan!" He laughed a little and he got those little crinkles by his eyes, and I smiled to myself because his laugh is so beautiful. I miss being the cause of that laugh.
"Same old Kaylen!" Niall said with a little giggle still left on his lips.
When we pulled into the parking lot, Niall faced me as he whispered, "To be honest, I can't stop thinking about running into you yesterday. I'm so glad that you texted me." His eyes sparkled from the reflection on the window. I looked up from my lap and just gave him a little half smile. "Well. I think we should get something to eat! I haven't had anything to eat all day!"
