I almost choke on my water.
"My brother," I question him, shaking my head, "not possible, I don't have a brother. My mom would have told me if I had a brother."
"Remember when your- our mom said 'not again'?" He asks.
I shake my head. But I do remember, I just can't believe it.
"I was the first, and you were the second," he says.
"First and second what?"
"I can't tell you," he states, " not yet at least."
I grunt.
"Then what can you tell me?"
Zachary runs a hand through his hair.
"Not much," He admits.
There is a long awkward silence between us before he speaks again.
"But I can tell you one thing," he comments, "if I didn't get there when I did, Lauren, that man could have killed you."
That's when the memories come flying back. And that girl. The girl who shot the man. Who was she? Zachary seemed to know her.
"Zachary," I say, "who was the girl who shot that man?"
"That was Jen," Zachary replies, "she's a really good friend of mine. She also helped me get you out of there."
"Well thanks for that," I say, "and thank Jen for me, too."
Zachary phone dings and a worried look spreads across his face.
"Well you can tell her yourself," Zachary comments, "because she's in the hospital."
