The screams of the infected echoed throughout the streets. I ran down Jefferson Street slowing down every now and then to jump over a car or evade more infected. I looked back into the crowd of once people and saw a few abnormals sprinting like a human to me. "Shit!" I picked up the pace running twice as fast now. I turned a corner and fell on my ass. I looked up and saw an infected peering over me. His bloodshot eyes staring at me ready to feast. I quickly pulled out my machete and stabbed it through his skull. Once he stopped moving, I tossed him aside, and continued to run. I ran into a parking lot of a mall. I was breathing really heavy now, so heavy you could probably hear it 30 feet away. "Mall, there might be more inside there, but there's A LOT out here" I thought. I turned my head and noticed the crowd getting closer. "Gah!" I took off running into the building. Surprisingly there wasnt anyone or anything in the series of floors and shops that I could see or hear. My footsteps and breathing echoed through out the halls. I turned and ran into a Gander Mountain store. I hid behind a wall and caught my breath. I looked up and saw a pair of black high top army boots. I whistled at the sight. I looked at the pair or old sneakers I've had for the past two years. They were now covers in blood, dirt and had holes in them. I looked thought the shelves. "Ten, ten, ten, ten..." I talked to myself finding the pair. As I reached for the box I heard voices. "Look! We can get a few things here can't we?" It was a young woman's voice. But it wasn't the only one. "Yea. But let's be quick, I don't wanna be in here too long." I peeked around the corner and saw two people who both looked around the same age as me. The boy turned his body back and fourth grabbing whatever he thought was useful. He then peered over and noticed me. He dropped his bag and pulled out a handgun and directed in in my direction. I did the same. I pulled out the .44 my dad had given me and pulled back the hammer. We stood there like it was a stand off. Silence. We both didn't move nor say anything. "Where's the girl?" I asked realizing she was no where in sight. I felt something cold against my head. Realizing it was a gun I stiffened. "Right here."
