Chapter 2

I took a deep breath, opening my eyes. It wasn’t my choice, but it was now time to see what after life was like. As I looked around I didn’t believe my eyes. I shut them quickly, taking 3 heaping breaths.

Pinching myself I opened my eyes once more. Nothing had changed. I was being pulled through the water, breathing. I looked Prince Fane up and down. There was no way he could swim that fast, especially pulling me along too.

I let out a little yelp when I saw a fin where his legs belonged. I tried pulling my arm out of his grasp. He stopped swimming and turned to face me. All of a sudden his voice boomed in my mind.

“What are you doing, Princess?” he asked, his lips not moving. I just floated there shocked. I heard his again. “We can communicate with our minds down here. Try to think something to me, go on.”

I just stared at him, my mind blank. I took a reluctant breath, scared of drowning. “Um, do you hear me?” I thought. He nodded, encouraging me to think more. “What the hell is going on? Youre half fricken fish! How can I breathe? But most of all, why did you just take me from my family?”

He looked taken back by my sudden anger. He just sighed and thought to me, “You are needed beyond your land. I was sent to retrieve the chosen one and trust me I wasn’t expecting you. But here’s a wake up call, Princess. Have you looked at yourself lately? Im not the only one misses my legs now am I?”

I was so utterly confused by his statement. Nervousnessly, I glanced down at my legs. The only problem was that they were gone! I had a fin just like Prince Fane. YYou could see the power it possessed just by looking at it.

A mild orange with scales that looked delicate. Seeing this new development took me back. I screamed as loud as you can when your underwater. Fane looked like he was in pain and suddenly he burst out laughing.

“You don’t get out much, now do you Princess?” I glared at him. He thought this was way too funny. I preferred the Prince Fane that I met in the castle. The Fane that was nervous and fidgeting and in a rush, not the one who decided we could stop so he could laugh at me.

Pinching his other arm he quickly let go of me, giving me time to make a break for it. I shot to the surface and back to where I came from. Deep down I knew I had no chance of getting away from him, but I had to try. Just as soon as I had taken off, Fane was right in front of me, grabbing my arm again and dragging me back into the direction of hell.

Reluctantly, I let my body go limp, letting him be completely responsible for getting me where ever the heck he was trying to take me. After we had been traveling for a while, I got antsy and tried to contact Fane. “Uhh…anybody there?” I asked reluctantly through my mind. It was so weird.

Without even flinching by my sudden contact Fane replied. “Yes, princess?” clearing my throat (as best I could for being underwater) I asked him a simple question. “Where are you taking me?” without a second thought, Fane replied fast. “You will see when we get there.”

I wasn’t appreciating the way he was treating me. He was dodging my only question with a sly tone. With a flick of my tail I pulled us to a hault. The Prince looked at me questionably. “Can you at least tell me how long it will take? I am very tired.” He rolled his eyes at me, obviously annoyed by me getting used to talking underwater.

“We wont be there for a while, your highness.” He turned to start swimming again, and I let him, again. “Fine.” I said. “But I am going to sleep a bit.” He just nodded, showing he got the message. So with a sigh I closed my eyes, putting all my trust on Fane, a guy I met just a few hours earlier.

It was a pretty dreamless sleep. I occasionally drifted into a small dream, but not much. I was woken by a few gentle nudges. Groggily, I opened my eyes to find Prince Fane hovering over me. With a yawn I floated to an upright position. I didn’t even notice the change in scenery at first.

When I was sitting I took a double take. The room I was in was quite grand. It could even be a bit grander than my own, which was hard to do considering I was a princess. I looked around in awe, unsure what to say. Everything was so spectacular.

I guess Fane could see the wonder in my eyes because he quickly spoke. “So you like it princess?” I looked over at him and reluctantly nodded, not wanting to be nice to him. “Well, I am glad you like it because you will be staying here for a while.”

I looked at him curiously. I still didn’t know where he took me. “And where is here exactly?” I asked. He nodded his head toward the window. I swam over to it and he followed. He reached over me and unlatched the window, letting a stream of cool water flow in. I cautiously looked out.

Beautiful colors filled my eyes.  The buildings where made of things I had only ever seen in oceanography specials on tv and the way the light bounced off the objects made spectacular colors mix in wonder. I looked in awe, unsure how to respond. I just looked up to Fane and he said to me. “Welcome Princess AnnaBelle. Welcome to Ressinia.”
