Millie Redford and the Runaway

The Surprise

Cook- a- do- dle- doo, was Millie Redford's usual alarm clock. At 5:00 straight thanks to Solomon the Redford's Rooster. But this time it wasn't Solomon. It was Lucy, Millie's Sister who woke her up.
" Millie, Millie Redford its your birthday. Happy Birthday Millie!!" Lucy said shaking Millie almost to death.
"Go away Lucy, Let me sleep, Solomon haven't woken me up yet!" Said Millie with a groan.
"Come on silly get up, it's your birthday" Lucy replied surprised while pushing Millie out of the bed.
"It's my what" yawned Millie.
" Your birthday!!!" Lucy said annoyed
"Really" exclaimed Millie as she jumped out of bed.
"O my gosh you're very slow this morning." Replied Lucy shaking her head.
Millie grabbed her usual work clothes and shoved them on and ran outside to the chickens with her basket. She picked up the eggs carefully.
Millie quickly fed the chickens. Then the cats and dogs.
Finally when she finished her daily chores she ran into her room to put on her comfortable sweater and jeans. Afterwards she ran after Lucy to the dinning room.
Happy birthday honey!!" Replied Alyssa, her mother in her smooth tone in which made you feel very safe. She hugged Millie before letting her go so she could continue to cook breakfast. It smelt very good. It was pancakes!!! Mmmmm thought Millie.
David her little 3yr old brother came up and hugged her legs as that's all he could reach.
Millie laughed and picked him up to snuggle.
Joseph Lucy's twin came up and said
"happy birthday"
before walking away with a smile.
Everything was great until Millie said with a frown " where's Dad?
Mum looked at Lucy, Joseph and David with a worried look and shook her head and then smiled and said " Dad had to do something work wise in town he left at 4:00.
Ugh how could dad leave for town on my birthday thinks Millie with a frown.
At 6:00 Mr Redford came home. The Redford family sits around Millie as she opens her presents.
Millie looks around and smiles as she has just got perfume from mum and dad, lovely books from Lucy, Joseph and David, a dress and a new sweater from Millie's uncle and aunt in California what lovely presents thinks Millie. She was about to thank them when
her parents smiled and then turned and said "We have one more present for you but you need to come outside."
The Redfords all walked outside and to the barn.
When they got inside Millie her a neigh. Millie smiled and stood up straight and continued to walk. She walked to their stalls only to see the beautifulest thoroughbred ever in her opinion. It had a long white strip from its ears to its nose.
It's black mane was as dark as coffee with charcoal rubbed into it.
It walked towards them and rubbed into Millie.
She laughed.
"It's a her and we thought you could name it" said Mr Redford proudly.
"Really?" Exclaimed Millie.
"I'm going to call her Bessy."
