Weaving

As usual, Kapi woke up energized, and cooked her aunt's black coffee. As Kapi poured the black coffee beans into the pot of  water, she wondered where Ghirardelli would take her to weave. She lit the fire underneath the black pot, and the water started to boil in a few minutes of waiting. While Kapi waited, she mixed some pancake batter that was leftover from yesterday. She carefully poured the pale yellow batter into the frying pan. Instantly, the batter made popping noises and started to bubble after the fire was lit. Afterwards, Kapi flipped the boiling batter and plopped it onto a stylish plate. She thought the time was ready to drain out the black coffee into a clay mug. Kapi carried the warm clay mug into Aunt Clarisse's room. Aunt Clarisse was asleep, snoring loudly as Kapi placed the mug onto the table. Kapi quickly slipped out of her aunt's room and ate her breakfast.

For some reason, Aunt Clarisse didn't wake up yet. Kapi thought it was a chance to escape the cottage, and slip away into Ghirardelli's cottage. Kapi wondered why Aunt Clarisse didn't wake up yet since she would usually wake up after Kapi finished eating breakfast.

In the distance, Kapi saw Ghirardelli outside her shimmering yellow cottage. Ghirardelli was tending her garden, and plucking palm leaves from her tall palm tree. "Good morning Ghirardelli." greeted Kapi. "Good morning to you Sardine." replied Ghirardelli. "Today, we're going to weave us some baskets out of fresh palm leaves from my exquisite garden." said Ghirardelli. "Where shall we go to weave baskets?" said Kapi. "To the spring oasis in the forest near my cottage. After we weave baskets, we'll go berry pickin' at an orchard that's not too far from here."answered Ghirardelli. "Here, let me help you carry these palm leaves to the oasis."said Kapi in a soft voice.

At the oasis Kapi gasped at the beauty of the oasis. "Woah this oasis is the most charming place I've ever seen."said Kapi brightly. The oasis had a large waterfall which made a calm splashing noise as the water dropped into the lucid bright blue pond. Tropical flowers blossomed around the bright blue pond. Tall shady trees encircled the pond with pink flowers poking out of the large leafy light jade-colored leaves. The reflection of all the plants on the pond beamed brightly. "It sure is a calm, and relaxing place. We could go camping here one day."replied Ghirardelli. "Totally!"agreed Kapi. "Okay, let's start weaving."said Ghirardelli in a mellifluous voice.

"First step to weave is to calculate how many palm leaves you are going to need. I'd say we have 30 palm leaves each for 2 medium-sized baskets, so grab 30 palm leaves and I'll grab 30."said Ghirardelli"Next, have 15 palm leaves sprawled horizontally and 15 palm leaves sprawling vertically." Kapi arranged the palm leaves exactly how Ghirardelli told her to after Ghirardelli arranged it. "Then, pull the first vertical leaf up,down,up,down,up,and down through the horizontal leaves until you reach the end of the first palm leaf."said Ghirardelli. After a few hours of explaining and weaving, Kapi was finished with her basket. "Good job Sardine!"exclaimed Ghirardelli"Let's go pick us some berries to take home."

The  luminous white moon rose above the horizon as Kapi and Ghirardelli picked ripe berries from the berry bushes. They had long conversations and learned more about each other as they plucked the berries from the bushes. Ghirardelli and Kapi trudged their way home with heavy baskets packed with red berries. "Wait, didn't you say we would weave clothes too?" asked Kapi. "Whoops, I must've forgot about that. We'll do it tomorrow." replied Ghirardelli.  Then, Kapi said her farewell to Ghirardelli and Ghirardelli said her's.

The moon was high in the sky when Kapi returned home. Aunt Clarisse welcomed her with "If you love the moon so much, then why won't you sleep outside." Kapi looked down at the wooden porch floor in shame. All of her bright and happy feelings washed right out of her and went into the floor. Kapi spent the chilly, showering night outside, on the porch. She hated sleeping outside at night especially when it is cold. Kapi found some old candles in the shed, and managed to light a fire onto the candle. There were two sheds, a storage one, and a punishment shed. Kapi hated the punishment shed, in there, there was no blankets no nothing in there. Aunt Clarisse once locked her in the shed, and it was inescapable. Kapi slept on the cold wooden floor in the storage shed with a small candle lit up for warmth.
