Lifeline

Every smile.

Every word.

Just one person’s laughter,

Can make the world turn.

Polaroid snapshots

and daisy chains,

gap toothed smiles

those were the days.

Red crayon paintings

and colourful hands,

smiles and compliments

that make our egos expand.

Rolling down hills

And angry grass stains,

Shielding your hair

not your face when it rains.

Friday night parties

and hangover days,

time spurs past quickly

as we party away.

Cheap rusty cars

and noisy group dates,

once we get licenses

we’ll chauffer our mates.

Heavy frayed textbooks

and exams right ahead,

graduation is looming

some want to be dead.

Suddenly we’re throwing our hands in the air,

the principal’s grinning,

as all of us cheer.

Our expressions do vary

from happy to sad,

but we’ll never forget

all those years that we had.
