“Lily, you’re finally here!” Casey shouted from the other end of the clearing. She ran over to me and threw her arms around my waist. I laughed as I returned the hug. “Come on; I’ll introduce you to Chiron. You are the only daughter of Hades at the camp. So Chiron got a chance to talk to Hades & I told him about you coming here so he mentioned this to Hades. Hades didn’t want you bunking with a bunch of guys anyways, not that the camp would have let that happen, so he built you your own cabin.” Casey told me as she led me towards a large dark wood cabin.
She pushed the door open to reveal the cabin. It had a large living room, a study room, a decent sized bathroom in the hallway and a sunroom. The sunroom held several three comfortable looking chairs, a hammock, a swing hanging from the roof and a fire pit. “Hades is actually a pretty good guy when it comes to you. Chiron called me in while he was at camp and Hades talked to me. He had me help set up the room. So this is your bedroom.” She said as she opened a red door. I stepped in and she followed.
The room had the same cabin walls as the rest of the house. The rug was a deep red color and felt soft and spongy beneath my, now bare, feet. The first thing I noticed was the large window directly across from the door. The room was occupied by a king sized bed, a black vanity with light bulbs lining the mirror and a trunk sitting at the foot of the bed. “I love it!” I smiled as I hugged my best friend. I’d known Casey since I was born. She was the daughter of Zeus aka my cousin. “The walk-in closet is stock full of clothes, you have a shoe carousel and there’s a small chair in there. Your jewelry is all hanging up on displays sitting on top of the dresser in there. Your bathroom is fully stocked with everything you could think of. Now you can thank me.” Casey said as she threw her arms out. “Thank you!” I shouted loudly. She laughed. “Come on; you really need to meet Chiron. He’s so nice!” She told me. “Okay, just let me change first.” I told her. “Fine, but hurry!” She told me. “Okay I will!” I promised.
I pulled off my baggy pajama pants and pulled on some black jeans. I pulled off my sweatshirt and I grabbed a white halter top that Casey was holding out to me. “I know you.” She said when I looked at her. I shook my head, chuckling as I pulled on a pair of black running sneakers. I quickly pulled on my favorite black leather jacket. Daddy gave it to me for my birthday last year. “You almost done?” Casey questioned impatiently. “Yes, hold on. Let me just fix my nose ring.” I said as I replaced the silver hope in my nose for a small silver stud. “Okay, now I’m ready.” I said as I played with my ring. It was a rounded silver band with a ruby heart stone flanked by a white diamond on either side on my left ring finger. I had an identical one on my right ring finger, but the heart was black.
“Here’s your key.” She said handing me a thick silver chain with the key dangling from it. I slipped it over my head and smiled. I was forever losing my key to my old house. “You do know me.” I commented as I locked the door behind me.
“Chiron!” Casey yelled when she saw a centaur crossing the open field. He turned around and smiled. “Casey, how are you?” He asked when she met him in the middle of the field. “I’m good; how are you? This is my cousin, Lily.” She introduced. “Nice to meet you Chiron; daddy’s told me good things about you.” I told him honestly. “Really? Well I’m honored. Has Casey showed you to your cabin and given you your key and schedule?” He asked me. “She’s showed me the cabin; given me the key and I have not received a schedule yet.” I told him. Chiron looked at her.
“Whoops, I forgot. Here you go Lily. I totally forgot. I got caught up. I haven’t seen her in forever.” She told Chiron. “Forever is actually two years in her mind.” I told him. He chuckled. “It’s her fault. She just had to go and live in the human world; as if life isn’t already crazy enough.” She scoffed playfully. “What can I say? I had total control over my powers and I wanted to cause some trouble. Daddy was more than willing to let me go…after I begged him.” I said then turned to my schedule.
“You two are definitely cousins. Go on and get to class now. You have three minutes before you’re late. Do you still have the sword your father gave you?” Chiron asked me. I nodded. “The second paper in your hands is a map of the camp. Say where you’re going and it will show you the possible ways to get there.” He told me. “Thank you Chiron. I truly appreciate it.” I said referring to the map and the cabin. I knew he helped daddy set up some of it. “Anytime dear; now get on to class.” He told us. I’d only gone a few steps the opposite direction when he called my name. I turned around and he smiled. “Welcome to Camp Half-Blood.” He told me. “Thank you Chiron; it’s great to be here.” I told him before I hurried off to my first class.
“Hey.’ I said stepping through the woods. “You’re right on time. I’m Neyovah. Let’s see what kind of skill you have. Do you have a sword?” She asked me. I nodded and pushed on the red heart. My ring turned into a long sword. The blade was silver with a red tint and the handle was solid black. It was beautiful. She nodded. She was clearly impressed. My shield was solid black with red and orange flames, but I didn’t need my shield at the moment. “Okay, hit as many as the wooden statues as you can.” She told me. I nodded and got into position. I saw the holes in the ground and knew what was coming. My dad had a similar raining area in the gym. Yes, there’s a gym in his mansion. The Underworld mansion is actually really nice; not that many people ever saw it.
A statue popped up to the right. I took a deep breath and sliced the statue in half. I did the same for the next twelve statues. They were popping up one at a time, but after the first thirteen they started popping up three at a time. It stayed at three at a time before I heard a loud buzz. I looked over to Neyovah. “You hit every one. You’re excellent with a sword. Let’s see how you do in a one on one battle.” She said. I nodded.
Daddy trained me, meaning I’m a great fighter. When he got bored he would tell some of the people that’d recently died that if they could beat me in a sword fight then they could have their life back. They never won. I considered several times letting someone win, but Daddy lectured me before every fight. He pretty much made sure that I wouldn’t let anyone win. ‘Death is a part of life; ironic isn’t it? Death is inevitable. ’ He would say. ‘Eventually, we all have to face it. Remember, these people are down here for a reason Lily.’ He would tell me. Honestly, it was cruel, but he was right. Death was unavoidable and they were sent down there for a reason.
