The next day we were on our way once again with, like the day before, if not worse, a long and awkward silence. I shot glances in his way during the whole time and quickly turned away when he would look down at me. I wanted to know more about the country that terrorized so many others. Wanted to know if he was really like we all portrayed him. If he wasn't actually someone extremely nice but just as shy. I had no idea. But intended to find out.We arrived at a house that I immediately recognized, it was Estonia's, a friend of mine. I asked if we could stop by just to say hi and Sweden agreed with a simple nod. And so, I knocked on the door cheerfully, impatient to see my old friend. Sweden was waiting a few steps away. The fact that he accepted and actually waited for me made me happy, thinking that he might actually considered me a pleasant presence.
As soon as I saw Estonia, I ran up to him, tears forming in the corners if my eyes, I was happy to finally be able to see a friend that neither bossed me around or looked like he was about to kill me. Estonia was surprised of my unannounced visit but seemed just as pleased.
After saying hi, Estonia noticed Sweden behind me and asked who he was. I turned around ready to introduce them but then I saw the scariest face Sweden had ever made, freaking out my friend and me as well.
"H-He's scary!!" Estonia said out of spite. "What?" Sweden asked looking as angry as ever . I whispered in a rush, "Why in the world did you say that? I've been trying to not anger him all day, why did you just spit that out?!"
Estonia apologized and tried to greet the other country properly. "I-I'm sorry, I'm , I'm Estonia," he muttered. Sweden kept staring and answered nonchalantly , "Yeah. I'm Sweden. And this is my wife," pointing at me. I stared at him in shock. I didn't know how to react. I couldn't help the little blush creeping onto my cheeks but quickly pushed it all away.
"Please don't make such jokes, they could be misunderstood," I laughed nervously hoping he actually was joking. He just stared at me, very seriously. I stared back uneasy, just wishing Estonia didn't get the wrong idea, although nothing was to guess the way Sweden said it, even though we were nothing of the such. Estonia simply looked at me like a worried mother.
Latvia soon joined us and we forgot the little incident, too happy being able to see each other again. But Sweden said something that once more, made no sense. "I want you two to come to my house," he said. I looked at him in shock, not believing what he had just said.
The two countries tried to explain that it wasn't possible since both of them already lived with Poland. Surprisingly, Sweden gave up with not much of a fight and we were back on our way.
As we continued walking, I started talking to Sweden about how he acted around my friends. I had no idea how he thought and I was really embarrassed the way he behaved and demanded answers. "Why did you do that?" I practically shouted. Sweden looked at me with what almost looked like surprise. I continued, not waiting for an answer.
"Why did you want Estonia and Latvia? Why did you have to ask that? Those are my friends!" This time I waited for an answer. Sweden had his eyes locked with mine filled with surprise.
He didn't answer looking at the road. He shot a glance in my direction but quickly turned back facing ahead. "I didn't want you to be alone. You looked lonely and scared," he said strait-forwardly. I looked at him with big eyes. I didn't know what to say or think. Once again, he completely took me aback.
He made me blush for the third time in less than 24 hours. 'So he actually was listening to me last night, and he must be pretty observant to have noticed my uneasiness.' I thought as I was walking a few steps behind the tall country. 'He might actually care the slightest bit for me, he might even consider me a friend.' My heart lifted a little at the thought and a smile spread across my face which I quickly hid putting a serious face back on.
