Chapter Seven

Erika had grown suspicious of Nikolai and his recent interest into her activities in Los Angeles and had Fredericko begin to follow him. She knew that he did not care for her anymore, and that there was some other reason behind his visit to her. Freddie was the best person for the job, as he was her most trusted employees.

Freddie drove to Nik's house and found and inconspicuous place to watch from. Vampires, even though they can go out into the sunlight try to refrain from it as much as possible since it weakens them, so Freddie was not surprised to see no movement or activity going on inside the house until around midafternoon. He was using his enhanced eyesight to spy though the front window of the house. The curtains were not completely closed all the way and he could see Nik moving around inside the house.

He was moving around in his boxers. He has gone to the kitchen to get some blood from the refrigerator for his breakfast, then he has opened the front door to get the morning paper off his porch. He was now sitting in his favorite chair sipping his breakfast and reading the paper. When he was finished with the paper he set it down and went into his bedroom. Freddie could not see what he was doing, but a short time later Nik came out fully dressed in a pair of black slacks and a short sleeved button up shirt. He sat down and put on his shoes. He stood up, grabbed his keys and his briefcase and walked out the front door.

He got into his card and started the engine, Nik listened for a moment to the purr of the engine. He loved that sound. He put the car into gear and pulled out of the driveway. Freddie started his car and was following behind him a safe distance. He noticed that Nik was on his way to UNLV. Freddie made a quick call to Erika to fill her in on what was going on so far, which at this point was nothing. Erika told him to keep an eye on his and not to report back unless something of significance actually happened.

Freddie followed Nik from a safe distance. He followed him to his office where he saw a young blonde student sitting on the bench outside of Nik's office reading what looked like the book Dracula. Freddie hid out of sight, but where he could still hear and see with his enhances senses. He watched Nik walk up to the young girl and greet her, "Good evening Angel, how are you tonight?" The girl looked up from her book and replied, "Oh, hi Nik. I am good. I was just getting a start on the reading for this week while I waited for you since I got here a little early." Nik unlocked his office door and held it open for her so that she could enter before him.

He breathed in deeply as she walked past him, inhaling that sent that is all HER. He just hoped he could get through this meeting without killing her. They entered the office and he shut the door behind them. He gestured to the seat in front of his desk and Angel sat down, he took the seat behind the desk. Freddie had moved closer now and was listening outside the office door. He could hear everything that was being said inside.

Nik looked at Angel and could tell that she was nervous about the talk they were going to have. He leaned forward and looked her in the eye and said, "Angel, tell me what you were going to tell me yesterday after class before we were interrupted." He hated to glamour her, but he needed to know what she had been about to say to him last night.

Angel looked at him and without realizing that she was doing it she began to speak, "I was telling you about my father's death and how I thought that there was a connection the murdered girls here in Vegas. What I didn't tell you was that, and this is gonna sound crazy, I think it was vampires that killed my father and those girls. I know it's crazy, vampires don't exist, but I believe that they do and that not all of them are the vicious killers that the books and movies make them out to be." Nik just sat there.

He was afraid of this; it's not unheard of for humans to believe in his kind, but when one is investigating those suspicions that when things can get dangerous. "Do you have any proof to back up your theory," Nik asked. Angel shook her head no that she did not and replied, "No I don't, it's just a feeling I have. I have always believed in vampires my whole life and it wasn't until I was a teenager that I started to have a reoccurring dream of a vampire lover. I never could see his face in my dreams but he was always there."

Nik knew that her dreams were about him, they always were. Every time he has met her in the past she has always told him about these dreams of a lover that she had, but they never said that it was a vampire lover. Angel was the first to ever specifically say it was a vampire lover. He wondered what that meant.

Outside the office Freddie was listening and heard everything. He called Erika and told her everything that he heard. He could hear Erika on the other end and she was not happy. She replied, "Bring her to me. She believes in vampires does she and thinks one killed her father, well let's show her the truth. If she tastes anything like her father did I am really going to enjoy this." Freddie had his orders and he planned to grab the girl as she left Nik's office.

Angel shook her head to clear it and realized she had just told him everything and she had not intended or meant to. She stood up and looked at him in fear for a minute. "What did you do to me? How did you get me to tell you everything? I had not yet decided what I was going to say and then I heard myself just telling you everything. Almost like you glamoured me to." She took a step back and then the look on her face changed to one of realization, "You're one of them. A vampire. Ha ha ha, wow what a clever way to hide yourself by teaching a class all about yourself. But if you were a bad vampire why would you put yourself in the public eye teaching?"

Nik did not know what to say. No one had ever accused him of being a vampire before. How did she know. The only humans that knew about vampires were the hunters and he made sure to stay out of their way. It was one thing for a human to believe in vampires but another thing for them to go around accusing vampires of actually being vampires. This kind of thing could get her into trouble.

"Angel, its not what you think. You have to calm down. Let me explain," Nik said. Angel was still backing away from him, she now had her back to his office door and she was reaching for the handle. She turned the knob and ran out of his office. Nik debated for a moment if he should follow her and just as he started to go after her he heard her scream.

He ran out of his office just in time to see Freddie grab her and drag her away. He started to chase after them, but he knew exactly who was behind this and if Freddie overheard their conversation then that meant Erika already knew and Angel was in grave danger. He knew that he could not go after her alone, but who could he ask to risk their lives for him, for Angel?
