Chapter 2

Angel and Sarah walked out of the classroom and could not help but laugh as they passed Nik's desk. The girls had plans to grab dinner after class and were going to take Angel's car. Since they were roommates in an apartment off campus they usually drove to campus together. They were walking through campus toward the back parking lot of the Thomas and Mack Center off Tropicana and it was a pretty long walk. Angel pulled out her pepper spray and held it in her had as they walked. It was just a precaution; both girls always carried it with them ever since their friend had been mugged after class one evening last semester.

Angel and Sarah were both nuts about anything supernatural. Angel had already graduated college and was teaching reading at Woodbury Jr High School. When Sarah told her about the summer lit class at UNLV that was going to be themed strictly on vampires, she could not resist auditing the class just for the fun of it. The girls were talking about the class and the professor and the cute guy with the blue hair. "I cannot believe how hot that guy with the blue hair and tattoos is," said Sarah. "I wonder if he has a girlfriend." Angel replied, "I don't know, why don't you ask him out?" Sarah looked at her best friend and burst out laughing. "Yeah right, you know I would never do that. I am too shy." "I don't know why," Angel said. "You're gorgeous. Any guy would be lucky to have a chance with you, even smurf boy." At that comment both girls were laughing so hard they did not realize that smurf boy was actually right behind them and had heard the entire conversation.

At that moment Erik chose to tap Sarah on the shoulder to get her attention. Sarah let out a shriek so loud it left both Angel and Erik's ears ringing. "I am sorry, I didn't mean to scare you, you're Sarah, right?" Sarah looked at Erik and nodded. He said, "Ok, good, I am smurf boy, Erik." A red flush was slowly working its way up Sarah face; her cheeks were so hot she could feel the blush, "I am so sorry that my friend said that, did you hear the rest of our conversation?" Sarah asked. Erik just looked at her with his intense green eyes and nodded, "Yup, and to answer your question, nope I do not have a girlfriend. Why do you want the job?" At this point Sara was mortified by this. She just stood there speechless. Angel looked at Erik and said, "Ok, smurf boy, that's enough. Stop embarrassing my friend. Are you really interested, or do you just want to embarrass her to death?" Erik looked from Angel and then back to Sarah, "Oh I am definitely interested," he said. Then he grabbed Sarah's hand and wrote his phone number on the palm of her hand and then turned and walked away.

Sarah stood there speechless for a few moments, and then she turned to Angel and said, "Oh my God, did that just happen?" Angel looked at Sarah and began to laugh, "Yes, silly. That just happened. Your gorgeous, why can't you see that?" The girls were still walking to the car as they talked about what just happened. They arrived at Angel's beat up, purple Volkswagen Beetle. The white convertible top was worn in several places and needed to be replaced. The girls got into the car, and Angel started the engine. It sputtered and started, finally, after three tries. Angel pulled out of the parking lot and asked, "So where are we going to eat tonight, I am starving?" Sarah thought about it for a few minutes and said, "How about In-N-Out, we have not eaten there in forever and its right down the street and on the way home."

Angel turned onto Tropicana Avenue from Thomas and Mack parking lot and drove east down to Maryland Parkway. She made a left onto Maryland and continued two blocks down the street to the In-N-Out burger next to campus. She pulled into the parking lot and looked at Sarah and asked, "Drive through or go inside?" Sarah replied, "Drive through, so we can take it home and eat there. I am exhausted." Angel pulled up to the drive through and struggled to roll down the window on her car. After the car ahead of her moved up, she pulled up to the speaker box and heard the cashier inside ask for her order. Angel looked at Sarah, "The usual?" Sarah just nodded her head yes. Angel then leaned out the window a bit and said, "I will take two number ones, animal style, with two chocolate shakes." The voice from the box came back a little garbled confirming the order and giving her the total. Angel then pulled up to the window to pay for the food and handed the girl her Visa card. Once she had the food, she handed it to Sarah and then pulled out of the In-N-Out parking lot and drove the rest of the way home. The girls lived in a decent two bedroom two bath apartment just down from the UNLV campus.
