The Smile

She sits with friends at lunch.
Jokes occur,
Silly events happen,
Laughs can be heard
And smiles appear.

Except for hers.

Her lips might be stretched from ear to ear,
Teeth showing
But that's not her smile.

The sound of happiness seeps out of her mouth but it isn't her laugh.

Its merely a sound.
A sound to cover her pain.
She "laughs"
And she "smiles"

But why?

To cover the pain inside.
No one can see it.
No one can tell...

But inside she is dieing

She doesn't want attention
Or anyone to worry
Or anyone to care for her
So she laughs at jokes that don't make sense,
And smiles at people when they say hi.

Her heart aches
as her mind goes insane,
her eyes holding back tears to fill a million lakes
as she begins to feel like she needs a mental cane

And yet she laughs at peoples jokes that don't even make sense...

And so she smiles.
