She ran down Plymouth Road, screaming her little 11-year-old head off.
"I GOT IN! I GOT IN TO HOGW-" she was cut off suddenly by a hand covering her mouth and an arm yanking her out of the street and onto the sidewalk.
"Quiet Majesty, you don't want the whole block hearing that! Muggles aren't ready for that kind of information."
Majesty tore the hand still covering her mouth and tried to fix her shoulder length black hair. "Well, sorry Jazmine, but I was just excited. I FINALLY GOT MY LE-"
Again, her mouth was covered by Jazmine. "Look, just because it's your birthday and you have you hair silk pressed does not mean you need to go around yelling about you getting accepted into the top wizard school in Scotland."
Majesty scoffed. "Well then if I can't tell the whole block, who can I tell?"
"Um, maybe all the kids of wizard descent, who are all at your party right now. They're probably wondering where we both are."
As if on cue, they heard Majesty's mom yelling out their names two doors down. Jasmine looked at her best friend and yelled, "Race you to your house!"
And they took off.

It was finally Jasmine's birthday, and she was up at 5:30. She was sitting in her bay window half-reading Hogwarts: A History , which was signed by Hermione Granger herself. She had gotten it signed at the War Heroes expo two years ago, along with a picture with Hermione and Harry. To be honest, they looked like they were still in their seventh year at Hogwarts, even though they were around 24 and 25. Jasmine had told both Harry and Hermione that she wanted to be like them when she grew up. They smiled at that and told her that they would put in a good word to McGonagall for her.
But if she never got her letter, what good would that word be?
And so there she was, looking out the window for an owl carrying a letter with a red seal. She sat there until her birthday party at noon, taking occasional looks outside. After the party ended at three, Majesty sat with her outside the front window. There was no sound coming out of their mouths, except their repetitive dialogue.
"Do you see an owl yet?"
"Nope. Do you?"
"No."
After the clock struck seven, Majesty asked again, "Do you see an owl yet?"
Jazmine turned away from her and the window.
Majesty looked worried. "Jazzy?"
She had her face bent down in her hands, her fingertips glistening in the light.
Majesty shook her. "Jazzy, are you alri-"
"No I'm not alright," she fumed, "I've been waiting all day for this stupid owl and it hasn't come yet! I was so ready to go to Hogwarts! To be sorted into Ravenclaw with you! To go and have sleepovers in the Astronomy Tower every night!" Tears streamed down her face. "I wanted to have my adventures with you for the next seven years, and now I won't even be able to see you during that time. I'll be here alone attending Whilloping Wizard Public School," she said nastily.
Majesty went and hugged her best friend. "I know how you feel Jazzy. I'm so sorry."
Jazmine wiped her eyes and stood up. "I think it's time we both go to bed."
"But it's sev-"
"I know what time it is!"
Majesty sighed and nodded, tired of being cut off one too many times today. They headed up the stairs to Jazmine's bedroom when they suddenly heard a hoot coming from the fireplace. They turned around, a confused look on both of their faces. Sitting there on the soot-covered logs was an Eurasian Eagle owl with a letter tied to its leg. Slowly Jazmine approached the owl, who raised its leg so she could get the letter. She reached for the letter opener on the mantle and gently opened the letter, a smile growing on her face. As she read the letter, however, her smile quickly diminished and her eyes started to water. She crumpled the letter up and threw it on the ground, making sure to stomp on it on her way up the stairs.
Majesty, with the confused look still on her face, went and picked up the letter. She tried to flatten out the letter as best as she could. It said
Dear Ms. Jazmine Miranda Plantain:
I regret to inform you that you have not been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The reason is that we simply are at our capacity for this year due to the influx of applicants this year. Believe me, I have received the comments from Ms.Granger and Mr. Potter; they have practically praised your achievements over the last two years. I also see the potential in you. Because of that, I have put in a good word with a friend at Whilloping Wizard Public School, who is determined to help you with the same training that we have here at Hogwarts. Again, I am very sorry.
Signed,
Headmistress Minerva McGonagall
Majesty put down the letter, a look of sadness on her face. Hurriedly she went to Jazmine's bedroom, where she found her on her bed, silently sobbing. Majesty came over and sat beside Jazmine as she sobbed violently.
"Majesty?"
"Yes Jazzy?"
"Why is life so unfair?"
"I don't know why," Majesty said, her voice cracking, "I just don't know."
