Chapter 2: Realization
The day ended as slowly as it had started. School was so mundane these days. Every day being the same.
Go to class. Sit. Pretend to listen. Get harassed by teachers. Walk out of class. Repeat this 6 times.
I clutched my tablet tight to my chest, bag on my shoulder, pushing through the constant waves of giddy Minors trying to make it to their next class while sending beeps, or talking to their friends.
Hey, just because it's the future doesn't mean we've gotten better at multi-tasking.
(A/N: Beeps are like texts...you can send them as voice messages too :D You think...and whatever you're thinking of putting into the text message gets automatically sent to the ring that allows to read and hear the messages in your brain)
Suddenly, I was brutally pushed into the wall beside me. Whipping me head around and instinctively slapping the person who pushed me in the face, I found the offender to be my Matt. My as you would call it "best friend". Although it didn't feel like we were best friends. Just really close brother and sister who liked to tease each other too often.
Before I knew it my hand connected with his face, making a loud slapping noise and turning his cheek red.
Gotchaaa!
"Hey! What the hell Juliett we have scans in 2 minutes and I think you've just knocked all the information I studied last night out of me!" He complained, holding his hand to his cheek.
(A/N: Scans are tests)
I giggled. "Not my fault. Should've studied harder if just a little slap knocked it all out." I shrugged. I began to walk away in victory when he grabbed my elbow and started to tickle me.
And God, I hate being tickled.
I screamed, laughed and cried at the same time.
"MATT! Stohahaoop!" I cried, barely able to talk.
"Say sorry." He said, still tickling me.
"S-s-sorry!" I stuttered, still in the agony of him tickling me. He smirked, this time winning the real "battle" that I had now lost.
Dammit...me and my ticklish self.
After a few "I hate you"s and "I hope you fail your scan, Matt"s I headed out of the school building, done for the day. Besides, I was still a little on edge from what happened earlier that day. I could still remember the voice calling out my name, telling me things that were completely new and random to me, yet it seemed as if I had known it all along.
On the way to my Smart I zoned out, losing sense of my surroundings.
(A/N: Smarts are cars. They're small looking on the outside, and big on the inside. Kinda like the tents from Harry Potter. These cars are indestructible, so the driver cannot be hurt, and the car cannot harm and pedestrian, for it senses if there is a human in its way. This is why you're able to drive as early as age 14)
My vision became blurry. Every sound was blocked out. Silence. I closed my eyes to fight strange sense of entering nothing, opening them to find myself in a hazy room.
There were no boundaries. The room looked as if it could stretch endlessly, there was no end. Just open space.
It was the color of the sky, the mist that covered me looking like clouds.
My first thought was that I had died.
I was dead and now I was in heaven. Feeling as if my life was over, a small white chair stood before me. I was dizzy, about to collapse. I flopped down onto the chair, squeezing my eyes shut tight and rubbing my temples.
All of a sudden, pain shot up my arm. I winced, examining my arm to see if I had cut it, or done anything that would cause so much pain, but it was left unscathed. I was shocked, utterly confused.
I hadn't known there would be pain in heaven.
I lifted my head up, tears streaming down my face. Why had I ended up here? What did I do? Whatwas this place?
My eyes clouded up with tears, I began to see a figure shape in the cloudy mist. I blinked a few times, rubbing my eyes to see if I was making things up. But there it was, someone was here with me.
And I didn't know why, but I knew who it was.
He spoke to me.
Juliett. Don't cry. Juliett?
It was him. Elron.
His eyes gazed towards mine, awaiting an answer. Yet I couldn't make myself say anything.
I was speechless.
Oh my. This will be a bit hard to explain. You're in shock aren't you? Pure shock. You weren't expecting this. I'm sorry for that...I had no choice, really.
I nodded. I was all I could bring myself to do.
Listen, Juliett. Look at me.
I slowly raised my head, taking a glance at him, then averting my eyes downward until he persuaded me to look again.
What could I say, he wasn't exactly bad looking.
He looked about 15 years old, even though I knew he was more than 2000 years old. Everyone knew his story.
Elron had somehow found the cure to aging. Something that would keep you from getting older. Something that kept you from ever dying at all. This being the number one thing people wanted, he had not told anyone. After he came up with the Oxygons, Elron came out of hiding. People looked at him, puzzled to find him the exact same age as he was when he had left.
Elron's secret was let out the day after the cure had diminished. It was destroyed after a brutal hurricane, leaving Elron the only person in the world who would live forever.
Apparently, Elron's cure was a flower.
The everlasting lily, he called it. There was only one in the world. Elron had ground it up, and used it as a spice in one of his dinners. He later found out that he could not die, when he was shot by pirates on the coast of the Bahamas, and awoke the next morning.
Elron had the darkest of hair, the color of night. His eyes were a pale blue, almost like the color of the mysterious room. No doubt, he was incredibly handsome. And although he looked young, his face showed years of wisdom, and knowledge. I already knew what he looked like, everyone did. But seeing him for real (or what seemed real) was a completely different thing.
It's hard to explain to you. But I'll do my best Juliett. I'll do my best...
I tensed in my chair, bracing myself for what happened next, when my truth would be revealed.
When my world would change forever.
