BEEP, BEEP, BEEP
The noise startles me awake and I realize that because it is so quiet, wherever I am, that it sounds like it's been turned up to max volume. I attempt to open my eyes but they are heavy as if I have been sleeping for far too long. The current situation makes very little sense because just few hours ago I was dancing with Max at a club in the city, relishing in finally being able to let loose and have a little fun.
**FLASHBACK**
The music was loud and energetic and I was dancing like no one was watching, the numerous shots of whiskey that Max deemed necessary probably adding to my freedom. Max was so right, I needed this, not that I would ever tell him that.
"Where is Max?" I wonder out loud, to no one really, as I looking around I realize I can't find him anywhere.
The beat of the music changes again and all thoughts of my missing best friend evaporate as my body begins to once again move with each and every beat. I flawlessly intertwine and spin my body with the throngs of bodies around me, dancing with and touching whoever comes within reach. The mixture of adrenaline and the previous mentioned drinks add to the rush I feel and I feel like nothing can ever break this trance. It isn't long after the music changes once again that I feel myself being pulled from the crowd and I look up meeting Max's worry filled eyes.
"Where have you been Trixie? I have been looking everywhere for you for like the last hour! I turn my back for one second and all of sudden you just disappear" Max places his hands on my cheeks checking me over and there is a look in his eyes that I can't quite distinguish.
"I am taking your advice, I'm dancing, letting loose and having fun!" I yell excitedly and shouts of jubilance and agreement of the people around us echo mine.
"Yeah I told you to have fun, let loose and de-stress because I know you need it. However I don't remember saying anything about going out and dancing with numerous different guys like some kind of... I don't know, some kind of something!" Max rubs his face and the agitation he feels becoms apparent as he is lost for what to say. I am hurt by his comment and I probably take more offense to it and blow it more out of proportion than I normally would. I spin around and face him with a scowl.
"Rude! Look, you're the one that was pretty much feeding me shots of whiskey at the beginning of the night telling me it was to help me loosen up! Now you're being all mopey and bossy. From where I'm standing it seems like you forgot to take your own advice and don't want to have fun anymore!" I cross my arms pouting like a spoiled child having a tantrum.
"Trust me Trixie this is not me trying to ruin your fun. This is me being your best friend who wants to keep you safe. Also to remind you that this isn't Grand Falls, we don't know anyone here! These city guys will most definitely be creeps if you let them, which apparently you are okay with doing"
I hear the frustration and anger in Max's voice and I see it on his face. Max grabs my hand and tries leading me towards the exit but I stomp my feet and refuse to budge.
"Come on Trix, you are better than this, you are acting like a spoiled child" Max turns around to look at me again.
"Maybe I am, but you are being the stick in the mud and are, in fact, ruining my fun night out" I hear how slurred my words are but cannot find it in me to care.
"So, when you decide that you want to be fun again and stop being such a fun sucking dickhead you can come and find me on the dance floor where all the fun people are!" I rip my hand out of his grasp and stumble my way back to the dance floor.
