Faye Michaels was the freak at Jefferson-Lincoln high school in Quantico, Virginia. It wasn't because of anything wierd like a sixth finger or anything stupid like she picked her nose in the fist grade. It was all because she had a "gift". At least that was what her mother called it. Faye saw it as a life long punishment for some unknown reason.
Ever since she was three years old Faye could see and talk to the dead. She thought it was normal and that everyone could do it. When she turned five she found out that she was very, very wrong. She made the mistake of inviting all of her ghost friends, along with her alive friends, to her birthday party. When she introduced everyone the other kids got scared and cried for their mothers to take them home. After that Faye was teased at school. It got so bad her family jumped at the chance of moving to Virginia when her father got deployed for the marines.
Faye's mother completly freaked when she learned that her daughter had a connection with the dead. But Jane Michaels was great at making a big deal out of everything. Though this was kind of a big deal. She looked up all of the theropists and professors she could possibly find. But none of them could ever help Faye's family or explain to them how she got this. Faye's grandmother is convinced that it is "a gift from God so Faye could do some good wrok on Earth". Faye had heard that speech hundreds of times. Everytime she had complained to her parents about seeing a spirit.
One day Serena Beers saw Faye talking to a ghost in the hallway in eighth grade. Of cousrse Serena told everyone in the entire school that Faye Michaels still had and talks to her imaginary friends. Serena was the type of girl that everyone loved and everyone hated at the exact same time. She was kind of short, at least shorter than Faye, and she had long, beautiful blond hair. Whereas Faye had long unruly chocolate brown waves. Serena was thin, like model thin and Faye envied that about her. She wished she could be as skinny as a stick instead of her kind of not so curvy body.
Once Serena said something about someone, it was true. She could have said she just drove her pet unicorn's spaceship to school and people wouldn't have cared. They would haved still worshipped the ground she walked on. Once people heard the rumor about Faye they started putting juice boxes in her locker throwing diapers at her in the halls, and leaving pacifiers on her desk in class.
Now here she was, a junior in high school, opening her locker only to have a hole bag of diapers and baby wipes fall out. Faye rolled her eyes. You would think that we could move past middle school she thought. But teenagers were bored and had nothing better to do than bully other students. The tardy bell rang.
Faye through the diapers and baby wipes away, grabbed her geometry book and headed off to class. There was a man standing at the end of the hallway. He was tall and had brown hair. He was wearing jenas and a brown button up shirt with something stained on it. Was that blood?
A cold chill ran up Faye's spine. this man was deffinetly not alive. He had seen Faye looking at him, he knew she could see him. Which ment he wasn't going to leave her alone. Faye heard a loud noise behind her and flung her head around. Then turned back to the man but he was gone. where did he go?
Faye gathered herself and started to walk to class. She could not get the look of that man out of her head. There was somethng about his face. Was it panic? Fear? She couldn't place it. The more she thought about it, the more it scared her.
She quickly turned around and went back to her lockeer. She flung the door open and threw her books inside. She grabbed her purse and pulled out her car keys. There was no way she was going to be able to consentrate at school today. She needed to see that man again. No matter how much he scared her.
As soon as she stepped foot in the parking lot she regreted it. It was practically pitch black outside. There was deffinetly a storm coming, and it wasn't going to be pretty. She looked up at the sky and tried to guess how much time she had before the storm reached her.
"Faye!"
Faye turned around to see Adam Cruz running toward her. Adam was the captain of the football team and a real looker. He was tall, maybe six three? And had dark wavy hair. He was the kind of guy girls like Serena would be with. He was always nice to Faye and never teased her. They'd been friends ever since freshman biology class . They had been lab partners. He was the only person she'd told about her secret. He didn't make fun of her or call her crazy. He thought it was the coolest thing ever.
"What do you wnat Adam?"
"Where are you going?" he asked, puzzled.
"I just can't be here right now," she told him.
"Did you see one? A ghost I mean," he said.
"Yeah," Faye said.
"Who was it?" Adam asked interested.
"I don't know," Faye replied, getting annoyed.
"Do you want me to go with you?" he offered.
"No I'll be fine. Thanks Adam," Faye said and gave him a hug.
"I'll call you after football practice, be careful!" he told her.
"Always," she smirked at him.
Adam turn and headed back into the school. No sooner than Faye got into her car it started pooring down rain. Great, she thought. She could barely see anything, the rain was coming down so hard. She started the car and turned on her wipers. It didn't help at all.
"You can see me can't you?"
"Oh my God!," Faye shrieked frightend.
She turned to look at who was sitting in her passengers seat. It was the man from the hallway. And that was deffinetly blood on his shirt.
"Ahh, so you can see me," he said.
"Yes, okay, I can see you," Faye replied to him.
"I thought I saw you looking at me in the hall," he stated.
"Yeah, and then you just disapeared," Faye stated.
"I was looking for something," he said calmly.
"Do you want to tell me who you are?" Faye snapped, annoyed.
"My name is Henry," he said, " And I need you to help me find my murderer."
