This is my first Peaky Blinders fanfic. I'm a big fan of the show so I decided that I'd write a little something. Hope you all like it💖 (read the note at the end)
She leaped off the train and adjusted her hat. Here she was. The infamous Birmingham, her new home. She carried her suitcase out of the station and hailed a taxi.
"Take me to this address please" She handed him a piece of paper.
"Yes miss" and he drove off.Within the next 20 minutes She was at her address, her new house.
"Here ya go miss" She thanked him and handed him the money.
She got her key from her handbag and opened the door, bracing herself for what would be inside. Luckily she had bought her flat furnished so there wouldn't be a lot for her to add.It was cute. It had pale blue walls, 3 smallish rooms, perfect just for herself.
She set her bags in her bedroom and wandered around, checking what she had and what she'd have to get.
After a few minutes of looking she decided that all she really needed was some food and linen for her bed.She unpacked her suitcase, grabbed her handbag and headed towards the linen shop just down the road. As she walked down the road, the dust from the coal clung to her heeled shoes. Many people looked at her, some with hate and some with lust, or maybe they just hadn't seen a woman so well dressed before. Being from London she had always dressed elegantly unless she had to get down and dirty like when she worked at The Stag down in London, then she'd have her barmaid clothes on, which were less fancy.
She arrived at the shop and browsed the many patterns and colours they had to offer. She settled on a silky purple sheet and some cream sheets to add to it. After that she headed to the local produce shop to pick up a few bits for the cupboards. When she arrived home she placed the bags on the counter and sorted them out then changed her bed sheets, throwing the old ones out. She placed a couple vases of flowers around to make the place feel more homely which luckily worked. She looked at the whole house and felt pretty proud of herself.
Next on her agenda was to look for a job, preferably at a pub/bar as that is where she's worked for most of her adult life even though She's 23. She once again left her house and wandered the streets of a dark and miserable Birmingham until She heard loud, deep laughing. She looked at the entrance of the place and noticed it was called The Garrison. She presumed it was a pub so she walked in, not knowing how the moment she walked in would change her life forever.
All eyes were on her.
There wasn't one woman in here and she felt so intimidated. She was used to being around men, not in the prostitute way but because of her previous job, but these men seemed more.. Rough than the men in London.
She walked into the bar and sat down and the bartender approached her.
"Are you lost love?"
She cleared her throat lightly.
"N-no I'm not"
"Well, what can I get you?"
"Ummm, I'll have a glass of red wine please"
By this point everyone had continued back to their previous conversations. He handed her her drink, she paid, took a sip and placed it back down, leaving a red lipstick mark on the rim of the glass. She tapped her fingers on the bar whilst looking at her surroundings.
"Excuse me"
The bartender flung his towel on his shoulder and approached her, his hands resting on the bar.
"You don't happen to have any jobs going do you?" She pondered.
"As a matter of fact love we do, when can you start?"
That was easy.
"Tomorrow if you'd like, what time?"
"9? So I can show you the ropes around here and see how you are, think of it as a trial"
"Okay, thank you"
"What's your name miss?"
"Rose, Rose Hawthorne"
"Thank you love""Bottle of whiskey please"
She slowly span the neck of her wine glass and looked over at where the voice was coming from. A little hatch in the side, must be a private room. She looked at the man peeping through, his arms rested on the perch and his eyes were watching the bartender until they connected with hers and wow, they were a beautiful shade of blue compared to her dull brown ones. The bottle was placed in front of him
"There you are Mr Shelby, no charge"
He took one last glance of her and she bit her lip before he disappeared behind the blurred glass of the windows."Who was that may I ask?" The bartender looked up whilst cleaning a glass.
"That Miss Hawthorne is Thomas Shelby" he lent into her and whispered, "leader of the Peaky Blinders"
Leader of the Peaky Blinders ey? She recognised that name from somewhere. She finished her drink and headed home to rest for her first day tomorrow.
