Chapter 1: The Occupational Hazards of Being Cupid
This is torment, everyday I bless others with love, but I'm never able to have it myself. But then again who knows maybe Cupid's arrow is effective on himself. "Ha, no one would be stupid enough to try it," I whispered to myself while carving another arrowhead. Finishing my work I slowly head to the door. "But then again I am stupid."

The sound of footfall is absent as I make my way down the alley, hiding behind a corner I ready my bow and arrow and take aim. The arrow is silent as it meets it's target, a male in his 20's, who is currently chatting with a young women of equal age. The arrow melts into his back, its poison coating his heart. His lips suddenly crush against his companions with passion. "Damned soul mates," I muttered to myself. I stood and began the trek to my next target.

I twisted my key in the lock and swung open my apartment door. It's a dump, but what else would it be? I have no one to share it with except for Earl Grey, and I really don't think he minds the mess. Earl Grey strutted up to me as if he was called, his beautiful bluish-gray coat shining in the moonlight. I lifted him into my arms, scratching behind his ears I made my way to my mattress and laid down.
"Hey Earl will I ever be able to have a love like hers?" I questioned, knowing I wouldn't get much of an answer.
"Meow," to me his single word reply seemed to ask me what I implied.
"Will I ever have a love like my marks, love like the people my arrows bless? Or is that love forbidden for people like me, must I suffer the pangs of absent love for the entirety of my life?" I fell asleep that night, with questions floating in my head. All questioning the system and why my life develops the way it does.
