I was feeling jolly until I learned what happened to Brandon. After all, Luke was coming over to play, and I had just learned about The Alex duo’s plan to sail down to river. I had decided to rat them out and get Alex in trouble. (Yay!)
Then I got home. The bus stopped. Alex, Luke, and I rushed out (we still didn’t know where Brandon was). When we got inside, Brandon was sitting at the counter/table holding an ice pack to the back of his head.
“What happened?” asked Alex.
“Beast Boys.”
The room was silent. I choked on a gasp of air. “Beast Boys” was all we needed to know. Everyone in the CAST knew and feared the Beast Boys, and now my brother was a victim. Silently, we all headed off to do our own activities.

Now, Luke and I are in my super big backyard playing in the sandbox, and Alex had already left on his expedition. So far, our castle is just a foundation. (The walls and towers won’t stay up).
Luke is in fourth grade as well. Our mothers made us meet when we were a few months old. Luke also has blue eyes and blond hair, so our moms thought that we’d be cute together. No such luck. To me, Luke is like a third brother. (Sorry Mom, but I have a mind of my own, too.)
“This isn’t working. Let’s play inside,” Luke says.
We go in and try looking for something to do. Finding nothing to play with, I go sit with Brandon on the couch. He’s still holding the ice pack to the back of his head.
“So, Brandon,” I venture, “what happened? Specifically?”
Brandon begins the story. “They surrounded me at my locker after the first morning bell. Used the name “Pendragon” as an excuse. Phhft. Anyhow, their leader tried to sock me in the face. I managed to block it, but I hit the back of my head hard on my locker and passed out. Mr. Morris saw it all, and–“
“Who’s Mr. Morris?” interrupts Luke.
“He’s the vice-principal. How’d you not know that? Anyway, Mr. Morris calls in all our parents. The Beast Boys get in trouble for the first time, and I go home to recover. Then you come home and ask about what happens. The End.”
“Whoa, wait, this is the first time they got in trouble?” I comment, startled. They are so bad, but they’ve never been caught before? Amazing.
“Apparently everyone they’ve hurt is to scared to tell an adult, and no adult has seen them do anything wrong, at least until now,” is his explanation.
“Well, someone else is going to get in trouble, too,” I say smugly.
In unison, Luke and Brandon ask, “Who?”
“Alex.” With that, I explained the entire story about them going to the river.
“What?!” screams Brandon, “Doesn’t he know what’s ahead in the river?” He stops and mutters something unpleasant. Then he continues, “Of course he knows. That’s why he’d do it.”
“Well, anyway, he left. So what should we do?” I twirl a strand of hair around my finger.
“Obviously, get out there and stop him!” Brandon starts to get up.
“But your head-” Luke begins.
“I’d stop him if I had a broken leg! Let’s go, and hurry!”
