Long ago, on the great world of Terra, a planet mirror of our own, lived the Ten Royals. The Ten Royals were ten different families who ruled over different lands throughout the planet.
The youngest family were the Decem's. The family ruled over the Rubrum Forest, a great land known for its vibrant colors and its sap supply which was used all around for things such as rosin and syrups, but was expensive due to the limited seasonal supplies.
The next family was the Novem's. They controlled the Piscandi lands. Mostly limited to port cities but this was due to their prominent export of exotic fish year round.
The brother family of the Novem's was the Octo's. They controlled the Serico Meadows. They mostly produced cloth for the royal families and any other who had enough money to buy the extravagant silken goods.
The seventh most powerful family was the Septem's. The proud family ruled over the Beastiam Lands. They were known for their taming abilities and had many pets of all species and many guard animals as well.
The sixth was the Sexta's. The family was widely known for the rolling farms of the Re Rustica Dixerit Lands. They were the main food source next to the Novem's fish.
The Quinque's had one of the greatest militaries of all the families. The sons of the family were all gifted with military strategy and possessed much strength. Even the daughters were taught how to fight. They ruled over the Bellum.
The Quattuor's were exceptional blacksmiths. They produced the greatest and most durable weapons. They created the Demum Gladio, the long sword possessed by the holder of the Quinque family household, a coveted possession. They controlled the Educta Caminis.
The Tres' specialized in the art or horse riding and often trained the horses for the Quinque's rather than the Septum's. They were talented trainers and smart breeders. Their horses were stronger, faster, and held more stamina than any other horse. They held the Equorum Provinces
The Duo's were the wealthiest in the land. Their children were considered the most beautiful of all the people in all the lands, but tended to be kind rather than the spoiled children you would expect of such an extravagant family. They controlled the "money" mines and the jewel mines. Together the lands the mines were located on was called the Divitas Provinces.
Finally, there was the Primum family. They were otherwise known as the Father family. It is told that they are where the other nine families originated from and can trace their heritage back to them. They are a secretive folk who keep the other royalties in line. They ruled over the Regium Territories. The city in which they reside is known as Pater. The collective names of these ten lands is Patriam.
The head of the Primum family was often called The Rex, or The King. He had all power over everyone, but he could not name his heir. Rather the other royalties would choose their favorite out of all the children of the family, and they tended to have many.
The family is also the center of a rumor. No one truly knew if the rumors were true, and few actually believed these rumors were often executed by the family. The whispers spoke of magic. Magic of great magnitude, powerful enough to crater the armies of their enemies.
No one aside from the Royals could tell you if this was true, but the executions made it seem so.
There was one other family, though, The Malo's. They were unwelcome in Patriam, however. About thirty years ago, the Malo head, Krosus, decided he did not like feeling "oppressed", in a manner of speaking. So, he declared war on the Primum family in an attempt to take control of Patriam. He lost, and many, many people died. His land was separated from the rest of Patriam and was called Linquantur.
The lands of Linquantur became barren overtime, mostly from being overworked and drought ridden. The inhabitants were mainly thieves and thugs. The women mostly worked in brothels or as healers, and if they got pregnant they would often abandon the children. Most children did not survive past the age of five, and those who did often bore many scars and did not have much mass due to food ultimately being given to those who could earn their keep.
The ways of the two enemy lands could not be more different, and yet their leaders, their Royals, were almost exactly the same...
