I laid in the cool grass, staring up at the stars. They were so beautiful, glittering like gems in the midnight sky.
I was all alone, but it wasn't like I cared. All around me, people complained of loneliness. My own sister, determined to get a husband. I had no need. I liked being alone.
It wasn't like there would be anyone to talk to anyway. Both our parents were out on missions, having been drawn to court by the recent troubles with a few lords allying together and attacking other kingdoms.
As I watched the stars, I wondered if I would ever truly be a knight. If I would ever truly be as good of a knight as my mother and father were. How on earth would I match their legacy?
Well, I did have something they didn't. I glanced above my head at my backpack and watched it glow with violet energy, the same color as my eyes, a bring violet. My powers included telekinesis, invisibility, and anti-gravity, along with night vision. Everything you'd need to be a knight.
No, not a knight. An assassin. That was why my parents refused to speak of them. They were lowly powers for cowardly acts, acts for assassination, hiding in the shadows.
Nonetheless, they were powers. And man, did I intend to use them.
