There was a girl in my class called Zara. We were considered 'friends', but I didn't enjoy hanging out with her that much. Zara was depressed. Everybody knew it, but nobody spoke about it. Though she wore stockings every day it was hard to miss the cuts all down her legs.

I felt awkward hanging out with her, I never knew what to say or do. I was terrified of saying the wrong thing, or accidentally mentioning something about her scars and sadness.

But Thursday after school she approached me.
'Hi Lola!' She said, smiling.
'Oh hi Zara,' I replied nervously.
'You're going out with Fin Shepard right?'
'Yeah I am actually.'

She seemed very interested in Fin, asking question after question about him. I was really confused, wondering if she knew him. But before I could ask, she was gone.

It was only after she left that I realised she wasn't wearing stockings.
