He drew himself up. "I serve no one."

"You serve the Man in the Moon, brother. How did you die?" I said pleasantly. I offered him a piece of gum, as he seemed agitated. "Gum?"

"No, no gum. Why are you chewing so much?"

I tapped my foot a little and popped in another piece in. "ADHD. Otherwise I have a meltdown, a nervous breakdown like on the telephone wire with your buddy Jack Frost. He witnessed it. My gum fell out of my mouth and I couldn't get another piece fast enough. What's your deal?" Now he looked like the one in pain.

He winced. "Just memories. Painful memories."

"Of- oh. Oh. Nevermind, forget I asked."

"Can you let me out?"

"Sure thing. Just no jumping me," I cautioned. I readied my scythe and dissolved the cage. He didn't move for a second, but then he grinned and melted into the shadows.

Or rather, tried to.

I refused to let him pass, hardening the shadows. "Why are you here?"

"To collect the kid's soul. Don't have to anymore, so I'm leaving," he growled.

I crossed my arms, unimpressed. "Okay. I hope for your sake I don't run into you again, or else you're going back to the Underworld the hard way." I melted into the shadows and appeared back in Silena's room. She was tossing and turning and I sang softly, my body emitting a soft black light as I soothed her. I stroked her hair lightly, making sure I didn't actually touch her head. My hand tingled and disappeared into sparkling blue mist as she shifted her head, causing my fingertips to go through her. I stopped singing and sat back down. I felt a weak pull and sighed. My face shimmered and my cloak appeared. I concentrated on the shadows and pinpointed the location of my next job.

The North Pole?
