MADI -
Ever since high school I have always be Eli's rebound for when he broke up with girls. He always takes it hard and some how that results in me having sex with him. But this time it was different-- I was with Austin and I didn't want to be Eli's rebound anymore. After the Nerf game, Eli came to me obviously upset. His girlfriend Katherine had just broken up with him because she didn't want to date him while he was on tour. They had been dating for almost a year.
"You don't have to play tonight if you don't want to, E." I say softly as I run my fingers through his hair comfortingly. "I'm sure Matt will be willing. Or even Alan-"
"No way in hell!" Eli sits up suddenly. "Alan can't do my job!"
"Alright, alright." I smile, relieved to be seeing my best friend more like himself. "Are you sure you're okay to do the show?"
"I don't want to disappoint the fans." He shrugs.
I nod my head understandingly as I slip out of the bunk.
"Mads, wait." Eli says, his voice wavering. "Come back."
"I thought you were okay?" I ask, climbing back into his bunk. My conscience was telling me to leave, I knew what this means.
Eli pulls me in close, burying his face in my neck. "Don't leave." He pleads. "I need you." He pulls his face back to mine and kisses me, feeling urgent.
"Eli," I jerk back in surprise. I couldn't do this, I shouldn't do this. I was with Austin and I was happy. He's my best friend, for crying out loud.
"Madi, please." He begs, looking at me with sad eyes. He begins to trail kisses down my neck and, instead of protesting, a soft moan slips through my lips. "I need you," He says again, pulling my shirt off.
I began to feel dizzy as I slip Eli's shirt over his head. "We're not allowed to have sex on the bus." I let out a breathe as Eli starts working on my jeans.
"That has never stopped us before."
AUSTIN -
I watch Madi bound on stage, coming alive under the lights. Yesterday Awaits is known for their onstage banter. It makes the shows hilarious; even the people who didn’t come for YA laugh. But something about tonight was different. Not only did Madi seem off, but the whole band did. They launch into their first song and I watch Madi run around the stage, messing with her band mate’s instruments, from where I sit side stage.
“I wanna make my parents proud, and that’s what keeps the flame from burning out.” She sings, a sad smile filtering across her face. “I sold my soul to rock and roll, ‘cause it’s the only thing I wanna know.”
I smile widely as her soft voice fills my head, my heart pounding in time with Ian's drum beats. Even I have to admit, her band was pretty great. Being a little off didn’t even seem to stop them.
I watch the rest of the set, the band seeming less and less awkward the more they were on stage. Madi was almost avoiding Eli, I note. They probably got in a fight, I think, my mind going back to when I kissed her earlier. Thinking about her lips on mine makes me want to march right on stage, in front of everyone, and kiss her. I push the thought away as Madi comes my way, covered in sweat, exiting the stage. The crowd is so loud I could barely hear myself think.
"Hey!" She greets me, pulling me out of fans sight so she can kiss me. I almost enjoyed the smell of her sweat.
"You did awesome out there!" I say after we pull away.
"I dunno," She shrugs a small smile hinting at her lips.
"You did," I ensure her, giving her a small kiss.
"Thank you." She smiles brightly as she brushes the hair out of her face.
YA was after Memphis May Fire, which meant OMAM was next. I nervously fiddle with my hands as Madi reminds me.
"Are you nervous?" Madi asks with a joking tone. When I don't answer she laughs. "The great Austin Carlile of Of Mice and Men is nervous? Impossible!"
"Be quiet!" I shush her, which only makes her laugh more. "The guys can't know."
I always get nervous before shows and I always have. I know how much the band means to the fans, and if I were to mess something up I would never forgive myself. I knew that if the rest of the band knew they would tease me endlessly.
"Whatever." Madi giggles, shaking her head. "Go get ready," She pushes me in the direction of the back room.
"One more kiss?" I ask with a fake pout. "For good luck?"
"Sure, sure," She grumbles, but the way she said it made it sound a lot more like 'shore, shore.' She gives me a kiss on the lips before smiling and walking away.
I watch her walk away before heading towards the green room, a wide smile on my face.
****
I smile as the crowd yells through our intro, chanting the bands name.
The band runs on stage and I follow suit, greeting the crowd.
"This is such a good looking crowd!" Aaron greets through his microphone and I nod agreement.
"The best one all tour!" I laugh.
"This is the our first show of the tour, stupid." Aaron laughs.
"Oh yeah." I laugh again. "Well, lets make it the best one!" I smile as the crowd yells back at me. "I wanna see the biggest fucking mosh pit. This song is called Seven Thousand Miles for What, lemme hear it!"
