Leaning on the wall, I texted Curtis and Aggie back to back. They wanted to know where I was but I couldn't make up a good lie so I told them that I was meeting with Grant again. Of course, they thought that was a terrible idea since Grant almost tried to kill Mica but I told him that I pitied him and we were somewhat friends. I didn't really know. I shouldn't be near Grant because he was close to kissing me and tried to kill my best friend but I felt sad for the guy.
That was new for me. Feeling bad for other people, especially feeling bad for my long time enemy. I wouldn't be happy if he died though. If you have an enemy you would want them dead or to leave you alone but Grant was different. I didn't want him dead but I did want him to leave me alone in the beginning of the school year. Now, I wanted to comfort him as much as I wanted to make him feel comfortable again and to let him know that I was here. I was the only person he had, really.
Grant walked out of a white room with a blue shirt, black jeans, and converse. When he saw me, he flashed me a smile and rushed towards me with opened arms. I put my phone back in my pocket and hugged him when he got close.
"Hey man," Grant greeted and patted my back. He pulled away and scrunched his eyebrows. "Where's Oakley?"
A frown appeared on my face. How can I tell him Oakley died? I knew he had a soft spot for Oakley and telling him that Oakley died would kill him inside. Grant noticed that I was quiet when I didn't answered.
His eyes widened and he covered his mouth with his hand, shaking his head as he took a step back. "No, you have to be fucking kidding me!" I bit my lower lip when his eyes tear up. He wiped his eyes and sniffled, sighing loudly. "Shit man. I'm so sorry. What happened?"
"What time do you have to be back?" I asked.
"Um, six."
I nodded. "I'll tell you everything on the way there."
Grant tilted his had. Oakley used to do that whenever he was confused. "Where?"
I sent him a small smirk and walked out of the juvenile detention center. The judge decided to put Grant in juvenile detention center instead of jail because it wasn't completely his fault about Mica, even though he took all the credit, and the judge knew that more people were involved. Grant was thrilled that he didn't go to jail.
Aggie thought he should go to jail but I told her that Grant wasn't a bad person, he did bad actions and he was influenced by his mother. Of course, Aggie softened by my words but she still thought Grant should at least be expelled (which he was.) We got inside Curtis' car and drove away. I could tell Grant was staring at me. To get rid of the awkwardness, I turned on the radio and hummed whatever was on. Grant nodded to the beat and leaned back on the passenger chair, sighing and slowly closing his eyes. He mumbled something under his breath.
"Huh?" I said.
"I said thank you," he mumbled. I smiled brightly and turned up the radio, singing loudly and happily. I was trying forget about talking to Grant about Oakley. I spent too many days thinking about Oakley when I had to worry about other people. For example; Aggie, Curtis, and Grant. No more Oakley.
I relaxed my shoulders and glanced at Grant who was sleeping peacefully. I was thankful that he didn't ask about Oakley, for now, but it was nice to know that he cared about my feelings and how I didn't want to talk about Oakley just yet. I turned the radio off and listened to the rushing wind and Grant's soft breathing.

I stopped the car and sighed, closing the windows and making sure everything was off before I got out of the car. I shook Grant lightly and he whined, moving his head to the side. I chuckled and punched his arm. He jumped up and hissed in pain.
