Many colors (and shades) disgusted me.
Black, white, blue, silver—anything that reminded me of Oakley. Hell, I started hating snow, and it was snowing on the day of Oakley's funeral. Not many people came, but it didn't matter to me since they didn't know him like I knew him. Aggie and Curtis stood next to me as I stood in front of Oakley's grave.
Curtis had to lie and explain to the school that Oakley transferred to England and won't come back. Curtis said they were shocked because Oakley was a good student (which he was), and they hoped he was doing fine in his other school. I almost wished that Oakley went to a different school or never met me in the cemetery or met me at all. But he was never alive, to begin with.
And I had to accept that.
Aggie wiped her frosted tears and sniffled loudly, small sobs leaving her lips. Curtis had his fists in his pockets, and his blue eyes were bloodshot. He shook his head and let the snowfall on his black hair. I stared blankly at the tombstone in front of me.
Next to Oakley was his mother, Angel Oak. I asked Curtis to make it possible for Oakley to be near his mother. It will bring closure to Oakley and somehow for me. It was nearly impossible to put Oakley next to Angel Oak because it was still a big hole, and they didn't want the bodies near the hole until a new tree was planted.
Curtis almost beat the crap out of the guy and told him he would do anything for his son's boyfriend to be buried by his "mother." (Oakley was also next to a woman named Noemi, but we used her name to be Oakley's "mom.")
The guy finally let us buried Oakley next to Angel Oak (and Noemi), and we stood in front of my boyfriend's rotten corpse. Curtis slung an arm around my shoulders and made me lean on his cold black cotton jacket. I snuggled in his coat and secretly liked the comfort because I needed it more than ever, and it was about time Curtis, my father, comforted me until I was okay.
"We were supposed to hang out this week," Aggie whispered. I leaned away and slung an arm around Aggie's shoulders. She tilted her head on my shoulder and sighed deeply, the cold air showing her breath. I was happy that she made it to Oakley's funeral and at least go to see him before he went inside the coffin.
I wondered what would happen if Oakley stayed alive for a few more days. Maybe we could have made love like I promised, he would be able to hang out with Aggie one more time, or he would still have time to say goodbye to Curtis.
I was too damn blinded by love to realize that he was a magical person who magically turned into a Human. Aggie pulled away from my hug and walked back to the car. I heard the door car open and closed and loud sobs coming from the vehicle. It killed me to see Aggie sad again. It was too much death for us to handle.
"Do you want to visit your mom?" Curtis asked.
I looked up at him in surprise, choked by unwanted tears that fell down on my cheeks. I haven't thought about my mom since Oakley clouded my mind. I forgot to visit her. Some kind of son I am. I cleared my throat and nodded. "Yeah."
Curtis grabbed my hand and left Oakley and his mother behind, and walked to my mother. My mom would hold my hand sometimes because she would tell me she would never let me go. It was weird how Curtis had soft hands like my mom. I thought he would be rough, but I wouldn't know if I actually held his hand. It was nice to see the same father I had, the one who would try to keep my hand even though I complained about it sometimes.
The gravestone looked the same.

I slowly closed my eyes and pictured her the last time I saw her. She wore the black dress that Curtis picked out, a few of her friends did the dark makeup that she loved, and her nails were black to go along with her outfit. Before we had closed the coffin, we had to put something that showed us that we would never forget her and always loved her.
