He stood up and lended me hand. I got up on my own and gave a small smile as a passive thanks. He beckoned for me to follow him and I did, feeling a need to explore. As we trekked through the field, I took the time to study his appearance. Half of his head was shaved, the other half was shrouded in black hair. He wore a short sleeved floral button up shirt and cargo shorts, but he was barefoot. The way he walked gave off a light-hearted vibe. He turned to me and I noticed a small nose piercing glinting in the morning sun.
"Don't worry about the kids back there, the worst they'll do is laugh and gossip a little. Nobody really singles anyone out around here. Well, that's not really true, sorry, I lied." He laughed quietly to himself, "You might stand out just a tad, what with your hair and all." I shrugged. So what if I stand out? I don't really care to be honest. People will always judge, no matter what. Some more harshly than others, but its still the same thing.
"You don't talk much, do you?"
Shrug.
"Can you talk to me at least?"
Shrug and nod.
"Cool beans."
Sometime passed and we stopped at a huge willow tree. I looked up and started climbing. Aaron followed me all the way up and we sat on a huge branch near the top. I looked up at him suddenly and asked in a confused voice, "Cool beans?" He jumped, obviously startled, then looked at my confused expression and started laughing. But it was different from any laugh I've ever heard. It wasn't bitter or fake, it was real and kind. It shocked me how amazing it sounded. It was like it's own genre of music, unique and beautiful. Once he had calmed down, he told me that it was just a expression that meant that something was cool or nice. I let out a small "Oh" and sighed out of content, leaning against the main part of the tree. I had closed my eyes and was relaxing, listening to the wind gently press against the leaves of the massive tree, when Aaron poked me. My eyes snapped open and I grip his hand, fear evident on my face. He wiggled out of my grip and and held up his hands in surrender.
There was a heavy pause.
"I'm sorry, I know what you're going through."
My gaze softens, and I sigh. I needed to chill out. People were going to make physical contact with me at some point, I might as well get used to it. I turn to him, and with all of my strength, I hug him. He's shocked for a moment, but eventually he returns it. It was the first hug I had since Mum died. It was, nice. And warm. I close my eyes for second, savoring the moment before pulling away."Thank you for being so kind to me."
He smiled. "No problemo dude."
"I'm hungry, can we go back to eat now?"
