Chapter Four

“Okay, now where am I?” I ask myself as I turn in a slow circle and take in my surroundings. I’m still in the woods but I know I’m probably about an hour or two away from the house. If I was still a human I would have totally collapsed like after forty minutes of running but being a werewolf, well, let’s just say I had my first wolf experience.

It wasn’t as painful as one would think. All I knew was that I was running on two legs than all of a sudden I was on four. It was kind of weird but I got used to it after a couple minutes. Well, it was hard to grasp how to run on four legs. My legs kept twisting and I kept falling on my face, well I guess it would have been my snout.

And now, poof, here I am. Back in human form, and yes, I do have my clothes on. I don’t get how they didn’t rip but they didn’t and now I’m lost.

“Where in the world am I?” I spin in a slow circle and jump when I hear a crackle in the trees.

“Who’s there?” I whisper, oh smart move Jody. The bad stuff always happens after someone says who’s there.

After standing there for five minutes I decide to keep walking. Yeah, I could be walking deeper into the woods but for some reason I feel like I’m walking out of them. I look around me and am astounded by how pretty everything is. I never noticed how green the trees are or how blue the sky is.

“Joody!” A guys voice yells. I freeze and listen. This voice doesn’t belong to Marcus. A twinge of guilt surfaces as I think of Marcus.

Well, he did have it coming for locking you in that house.

I nod, totally true. I squash the guilt but not all of it goes away.

     “Jody, I know you’re here.”

I hesitate. I don’t recognize the voice, and how could someone know I’m here? Marcus said it’s totally safe but obviously it’s not.

I take a step towards the voice; it couldn’t hurt to see who it is.

After walking for about five minutes I freeze as the guy talks again.

“That’s good, Jody. Come on, just a couple more steps.”

I whip my head up and my mouth drops. “Tinklen?”

The guy’s voice turns nasty. “It’s Linkon.”

I just stare at him. Linkon, he shot me! Anger shoots up my spine. “Why the hell did you shoot me?”

Linkon smiles, obviously glad to get a rise out of me. He shrugs. “They told me too.”

I glare at him. “Who did?”

His smile turns cruel. “The fierce ones.”

“The fierce ones?” I laugh. “Are you serious? What are you? Five?”

He doesn’t stop smiling. “You will meet the fierce ones.”

My smile drops as a bush starts to shake. “W-who are the fierce ones?”

Linkon raises his arms. “The fierce ones feed when the moon is high in the sky.”

     “What are you talking about?”

Linkon looks at me like he’s making a big decision. “You will meet them tonight.”

I laugh, even though I’m scared out of my pants. The fierce ones must be vampires. “How do you know I don’t have plans for tonight?”
