Rin and his friends stood face to face with a group of fierce looking buff men. The way the men just stared, no blinking, no nothing. It was terrifying. They all held guns, as did the ex-swimmers.

"This is only going to end one way, and that's our way.

Now give us all your supplies, guns included,  and the school. Then you're free to walk away and live another day." One of the men said as he took a step forward, his long black hair brushing against his beard in the wind.

"Huh. Are you actually serious? Are you-" Sousuke started, anger building up inside of him. But he was interrupted.

"Sou, shut up....  Fine, you can have every-" Rin interjected.

"No! Rin, no they can't! They can have fuck all. No fucking way are we going to-" Sou began, his voice loud and frustrated.

But he was stopped yet again, this time by a gunshot. A gunshot through the brain.

"NOOOOOOOOOO" Rin screeched at the top of his voice as Sousuke's body hit the grassy ground below.

Gunfire blasted for what seemed like eternity, every single last one of the men dropping dead.

As soon as the threat was dealt with, Rin let his gun drop from his hand as he knelt down next to Sousuke. He took sou's hand, intertwining their fingers.

"No, no please Sousuke.....oh god please no" Rin wailed, unleashing loud sobs as he knelt next to the body of the one he loved.

He realised his hand and scooped Sousuke carefully in his arms, standing up. Rin let out an unruly scream as tears stilled flowed down his face. In a matter of seconds everything had gone so wrong, and everything he had was taken away.

"Oh god...man...I" Momo was speechless, as he placed his hand over his mouth.

""Fucking bastards. Shit" Haru muttered.

"Rin, oh my gods Rin I'm so fucking sorry. But....but we have to go, go before the infected come. They'll be tearing us apart any moment if we don't leave now" Makoto spoke up as he picked up Rin's gun off the ground.

Rin attempted to compose himself, talking many deep breaths. But his voice still trembled as he carried Sousuke in his arms.
He nodded.

"Shouldn't we....." Nagisa began but didn't wish to continue.

"No. We can take him back, bury him back at the school." Rei joined, trying to reassure Rin that they wouldn't just dump him in the middle of nowhere.

"I..I..." Rin began but was overcome with tears once more. He squeezed his eyes shut.

"Come on....lets go home." Makoto said softly, helping Rin to carry Sousuke's limp body."

..........
Rin suddenly jolted awake, covered in sweat. He took a moment to breath and compose himself. It was still night and the old classroom was as dark and silent as ever.

He was haunted. Haunted by that day. Sousuke's last day.

But he continued. Rin wasn't sure why, but he did. Maybe it was because of the people around him, maybe something different. But Rin continued to fight, to survive, to live.

Maybe it was because of a thing Sousuke said whilst out on a run. When they lost Nitori.

"There's something. Something waiting for all of us. This isn't it. It can't be. There's something better. I promise you."

The words seemed to echo in Rin's head. As if Sousuke was right there next to him.

But he wasn't, and he wouldn't be again.
