Day 4

I wake up before anyone else, and check my phone. My mom must have called and texted me 20 times. I try to call her, but I had no service. I wake up Janyia, asking her if she had any. Her phone also had no service. Eventually, everybody was waking up and having absolutely zero bars. I also tried the home phone, but it didn't work either. Grace was going to go next door to ask the neighbors if they had any service. She opened the door, but immediately closed it. "What is it?" Karly asks. Grace wouldn't say a word. Karly looks out the window, only to be in the same state as Grace . "Zombies" Karly finally spats out. This was the day. The day of the dead.

"Turn on the news!" Jace shouts. Gavin runs over to the TV and turns it on. "No Signal!" All of our hearts start to pound. Sophia runs over to the radio and turns it on. There is a broadcast on now.

"I encourage all to stay indoors. If you have been bitten find medical attention immediately. We will have the military clear through all houses to find survivors. I wish all a safe journey"

"What are we going to do?" Morgan says

"We are all going to die!" Karly yells

I tell everyone its going to be okay and calm them down. I ask Gavin where some weapons are. He grabs some knives and give one to each person. "I know some of you are scared," I say. "But if we all are going to live through this, you have to stay strong, fulfill your purpose, and not let anyone down. Now, we are going to go house to house to look for new weapons."

"No! We have to stay here and wait for the military to come get us!" Jason yells to me.

"I know that's what they said, but the military only cares about themselves. They are not coming." I say

Sophia starts to cry. Then Karly, then Grace, then Cameron. I tell them that we have to stay strong. We can't let our emotions control us. They calm down, but they object to go looking for supplies. Janyia, Sophia, Grace, Karly, Cameron, and Jason stay to secure the base. That leaves Morgan, Hudson, Gavin, Veronica, Jace, and Me to go looking for supplies. I remind them that when you kill a zombie, you have to take out their brain stem. Then, we left.

We exited through the back door. There were very few of them out in the streets. I lure one away from the others. I lunge to try and stab it, but it quickly reached for me. I immediately kicked it right in the kneecap, and it fell right on top of me. Hudson runs over and stabs it right in the head.

"Thanks...." I say

"Sure, anytime" he answers

I then see Veronica having a bit of trouble with one of them. I sprint over to her and throw the zombie on the ground. I then do a quick motion of me shoving a steak knife into a person's head. This feeling.. it felt...  Normal.  As if we were born to kill. Everybody has a purpose in life, and mine, was to kill.

We finally get to the house next door. Everybody, except for me, are feeling guilty that they killed a person. I had no feelings. No sympathy, no guilt, nothing. We continue through the house, only to find an elderly couple on their knees, praying.

"Don't worry, we won't hurt you," Morgan says.

I quickly react, "Well, only if you give us all your weapons and food."

"What the hell Michael!" Veronica shouts "They're old people!"

"Exactly. They won't live long anyway."  I say, "We have to do this for US to survive. In this world you have choices. Live and be strong, or die and be weak. We have to make sacrifices, even if it's wrong."

"He's not wrong," Gavin finally speaks. "It's just what we're doing is wrong."

"Okay, let's get this over with," Hudson says under his breath.

"Where are your weapons?" I say

"We don't have any," the old lady says weakly.

"You're telling me, that you have no guns, knives, axes, nothing?"

"Yes I swear!" the old man says quickly

"I will kill you right here. Where are your weapons!"

"Michael!" Gavin yells "That's just going overboard!"

"Shut up," I whisper to him.

"Okay! We have a gun safe in the basement. The passcode is 17-48-36. There is also knives and hatchets down there."

"Thank you for your cooperation." I say walking to the basement.

We go down and there is exactly what he said. We first open the gun safe. There is a XD-9, M1 Garand, and a Spas-12. Right next to it are a display of knives about 7 of them. Then 2 hatchets hanging on the wall. When we go back upstairs, there is a bow and arrows against the wall. When we got back upstairs, only the old lady was there. We thought that should be a signal to leave. All of us run across the street, with no zombies seeing us. We enter through the front door this time; but when we walk in, everybody is kneeling down with the old man holding a gun up to their heads.

"I want you to place all my weapons on the ground and slide them towards me."

We all place them down very slowly, and slide them towards him.

"Now, you shou-"

He started gurgling, and then chocking on his own blood running down his neck. He then fell down still dying in slow, agenizing pain. Behind him was a guy. He looked like he was 16-ish.

"Hey, I'm Nick."
