I raced through the forest, my black-and-white wings folded neatly behind my back. Sweat was dripping down my face as low, thin tree branches whipped me. I heard faint voices in the distance, shouts to be exact, and footsteps. My heart nearly stopped from panic when I heard the wheels of a car and the roar of an engine.

Dammit! I thought, spreading out my wings, which were longer than my arm span. I flapped them, lifting me off the ground, and zoomed towards the cloudy gray sky. I flew above the clouds and kept a steady pace. Pretty soon, the shouts and car engine noises died away, and I could finally relax.

I did a somersault in the air, thinking about how cool it was that I had some awesome fucking wings. That's at least one thing that was–what I could call–good from those experiments. Human animal hybrids, I thought. Pretty wacky, but cool.

I folded my wings and stood up. There was no way I could go into the town. I didn't have a hoodie or anything that I could hide my wings with; all I was wearing was a black t-shirt and jeans.

I'll have to lay low for a while, I thought, beginning to roam the beautiful forest. For now.

Suddenly, I felt a raindrop splash onto my nose. I groaned. "Great..."
