DIPPERS POV

Both Mabel and I were in college when we got the news. Our everyday routine consisted of, breakfast, shower, school. We got up and I started on breakfast while Mabel was showering. I set the table just as Mabel was walking out drying her hair with a towel.

We both sat down and dug into fluffy pancakes covered in warm maple syrup.

"I can't wait for spring break." Mabel said.

"Neither can I." That year we were going to spend our break in gravity falls with our grunkles Stan and Ford.

Suddenly my cell phone rang. I picked up to hear my mother's voice on the other end.

"Hi honey." my mother said.

"Hi mom what's up."

"Honey, I have some bad news. Stan and Ford had a little accident while they were in Egypt exploring a pyramid or whatever." her voice was breaking slightly.

"ARE THEY OKAY? WHAT HAPPNED?"

"There was an unidentifiable airborne toxin within the pyramid. Ford was exposed for too long and passed away. And Stan, is in the ICU of a gravity falls hospital. I'm so sorry honey."

I felt warm tears welling up behind my eyes. My body felt weak. like all the strength had been sucked out with a giant syringe. I didn't know what to say. I was lost for words, I was still trying to wrap my head around the whole situation.

"Okay, thanks mom, I'll call you later. bye."

I sat down at the table silently with a baffled look on my face.

"What's wrong dip?"

"Ford is dead and Stan is in the ICU of a hospital in gravity falls."

"WHAT, OH MY GOSH."

"Let's go."

"Where are we going?"

"The only place we can . . . Gravity Falls."

We packed our backpacks full of clothes, money and my journal. We let our professors know what happened, and plopped ourselves in to the car.

Our drive was relatively normal, traffic, highways, backroads, but the weird thing was Mabel didn't say one word. I tried to start a conversation, but she just started absentmindedly out the window. I wondered what our future held for us and what would happen to Grunkle Stan. I knew I had to be strong for Mabel, and for myself, but the question was . . . could I do it.
