Coffee. I could use some coffee.
"You need sleep, Sadie. You look horrible." Mark Asher replied taking a sip of his Dr. Pepper.
I liked Mark. He was very attractive and very smart. He was young for an oncologist, but a few years older than me. He had side swept chestnut hair, sparkling green eyes, and the perfect jawline. His teeth gleamed when he smiled and had a dime in his left cheek. He was divorced with a couple girls at home. I don't think however, he thinks that way of me. So we just remain good friends. We have gone out a couple times for bowling, and coffee but nothing more than friendship. Which is fine with me.
Olivia has tried to hook us up but I don't think she gets it.
"I swear Mark you can read my mind." I said sarcastically. I tried to smile.
"What do you mean sweetpea?" He smiled showing off his dimple and flawless teeth.
"I was eyeballing your soda. I need caffeine." I staggered over to him and gave him a hug. He planted a kiss at the top of my head. The nurse behind the station, Yolanda Williams just shook her head.
"You need sleep. Go home. Better yet, let me take you home. You don't need to drive. You've been up 24 hours. Your patients will want to see you smiling and refreshed the next time around. I commend you for being a hard worker and loving your job, but you also need to take care of yourself. Come on. I'll take you home." He turned to Yolanda. "I'll be back."
She nodded her head and went back to gazing at her computer.
As soon as we got into his black Chevy Malibu, I texted Olivia.
Going home. Need sleep. Mark is dropping me off. Make sure you lock my office. You have a spare key. Also please make a good watch out for my car. Thanks.
A few seconds later, my phone dinged.
Sure thing, BFF. Rest well.
The ride home was short and silent. Mark kept tapping his fingers on the steering wheel which only made me fall asleep quicker.
We finally pulled up into my apartment town home.
"Get some sleep, Sadie." Mark replied.
"Thank you." And slammed his passenger side door. I walked up to the front door, unlocked it, and staggered to the couch where I had no problem falling asleep.
