It was 10pm when the screaming started.
"What the hell is that?" Scott bolts up and looks across the room at Stiles and Stiles glances up boredly from his book.
He looks annoyed at being interrupted by Scott and Scott would feel bad but the screams are sharp and loud but inhuman in a way that Scott finds appalling.
"Screaming." Stiles answers nonchalantly like screams from the depths of hell are the normal.
At Scott's surprised face, Stiles answers, "Scott, this is a correctional facility. There is going to be screaming."
Scott swallows, "Who-why would they be screaming?"
Stiles looked with almost a fond amusement of 'you're so new here, it's funny' before shrugging, "Everyone here is crazy in one way or another so screaming is kind of expected at this point."
Stiles seems to deem that enough of an explanation and he nods but there was a flicker of something over his face like vulnerability. Stiles returns to his book and Scott rolls over to face the wall, attempting to clear his mind of the screams and Stiles' explanation. The screams sound like their probing into his head and rattling down to his bones; they sound familar and Scott can't explain it. The screams were deafening but that's when the room becomes eery; the screams stop suddenly.
The cold feeling never fades.
