Chapter two.
Sterling stirred in her sleep and struggled to remember the night before. She was in a large room with a queen-sized four poster bed. It had blankets which were a pale lilac and pillows which were a mixture of red and white. The room had black red and white walls with silhouettes of orchids and thorny roses. There was a large gothic style window that was letting in bright sunlight directly ahead of the bed. There was a large wooden door on the left with big brass handles and on the right were two more windows sitting either side of the fire place. The window sill was wide and had been made into a small sitting place with similar décor to the bed. A large mirrored dresser was placed in the corner next to the door. The floor was made of stone that was worn where most traffic had passed.
Sterling sat up and gasped she took in the scenery and couldn’t understand where she was. Suddenly the memories of the night before flooded back to her. She leaped out of the bed and over to the window and looked out. There were green rolling hills that were used for pasture and she could see a thin ribbon of creek snaking throughout them. She looked down and was faced with a circular courtyard of stone. There was a fountain in the middle depicting three cherubs holding a stone dish that was overflowing with water. The liquid ran down their wings and splashed into the large dish below. There was a road going from the far side of the courtyard and out passed through the gap between the buildings, it lead to a huge black gate and a long road down the mountain. She must have been in a castle, she thought. Then she remembered what William had said last night, ‘you’re coming back with us to the castle.’ So they were in ‘the castle’.
“Good evening.” Someone said.
She spun around startled. It was the boy called William from the night before. He was wearing a black suit and a purple tie. His brown –almost black- hair hung in loose curls just below his ears. Sterling had to admit he looked good. In the daylight she could see how attractive he actually was. His sharp blue eyes held her captive for a few moments before she turned away embarrassed. She turned her green eyes towards him again but this time with plain fury.
“Evening? What the hell happened? Why am I here?” She growled whilst waving her arms as if to show what here was.
“Yes, its seven thirty. I don’t know why you’re here but I can tell you if you don’t participate you won’t be here for long,” he said doing the same actions as her.
She put her hands on her hips and glared. “You can’t kill me. You already know that.”
“True, but we can make your time here very painful,” he said stepping forward.
“Was that a threat?” She asked taking a step forward herself. They were close now. Close enough for Sterling to touch his flat and hard looking chest. No! She told herself. She couldn’t think like that about these creatures.
They stood there glaring at each other. Sterling could see a chair just beside the dresser and a thought crossed her mind. If she was just able to get to it and snap one of its legs off she could easily stake him and then get out of there. But she faltered when a loud knock on the door was heard. They both turned their gaze to the person in the door way.
“Wow, you already look like you’re going to kill each other,” the female laughed gracefully. The girl didn’t look that much older than Sterling, maybe even younger. She had long strawberry blonde hair and big light blue eyes. Her lips were plump and set into a smirk. She was wearing a long blue evening gown that hugged her figure and showed off her bulging chest. Silver diamonds hung from her ears and neck with excessive sparkle. Sterling felt a pang of jealousy for this gorgeous girl but she quickly dismissed it when she realised what the girl was.
