Ava fumbled to find her cell phone which was beeping loudly. "Ughhh.." She moaned in frusteration. After a long struggle she finally shut off the annoying beeping. Looking at the time which read 7:00 a.m. She reluctantly got out of bed and headed towards the bathroom. As she stood looking into the large oval mirror she realized she had no toothbrush, brush, or even clothes in that matter. Her hair was a mess, she quickly fixed it into a messy bun. "Eh it's good enough." She said to herself as she shrugged and shut the lights off. Ava quickly put on her canvases, grabbed her jacket and her backpack looking at her room one last time. "Well this is home now." She said grabbing the door knob. As she stepped into the hallway she saw a boy, tall, skinny but very handsome. He had dark hair, and dark brown eyes with very pale skin. He wore a black jacket and black jeans which fit him to the T. She quickly noticed he was staring right at her.
"Hey, you're new." He said loudly.
"Oh um yeah haha I just got here yesterday around four." Ava responded walking towards him.
"Ezra." He said with a half smile that produced a dimple on his right cheek.
"Ava. Adramelech told me you were living on this floor." Ava responded. She stopped just in front of him and smiled.
"Nice name. It fits you. I mean with your red hair and the way you handle yourself. Adramelech, he is one of a kind." Ezra laughed and gazed up and down her body.
"Um thank you? I like your name it's very mysterious but handsome, yeah um very much a one of a kind. I haven't quite figured him out yet." Ava said looking away for a moment as she didn't like the way he looked at her so intently.
"Thank you. It was my great great grea... It was my.. Um" Ezra struggled to remember which grandpa it was.
"Grandpa. Don't worry I got you." Ava laughed and patted his shoulder. Awkwardly she stepped back looking down the hallway past Ezra and took a deep breath.
"Um well I better get going. The moving van is meeting me outside in a few minutes. They are gonna help me with some of my things. Nice meeting you.. Ezra." She smiled and walked pass Ezra looking down at her feet. Butterflies of nervousness had flooded her stomach and her heart had started beating faster to compensate for the million extra tiny bodies that now existed inside her.
Ezra stood looking down the hallway at Ava as she walked away. He was amazed at how easily they had talked. He liked her. As a friend.
Entering the lobby, Ava sighed with relief that she had survived the five flights of stairs. Only to see that the elevator was running. With an annoyed sigh she walked over to the front desk where Adremelech sat.
"Hey Adremelech." Ava said in a boring manner.
"Oh good to see you, how was your first night?" Adremelech exclaimed. He was different today. Much more bright.. But Ava had trouble pin pointing what exactly was different. Outside the moving van had pulled out front and the driver had opened the trailor. Seeing the moving van out the small front window, Ava stepped away from the desk.
"It was good thank you. Hey the moving van is here I will see you later. " turning around Ava walked through the large front doors and out to the moving van.
Arlington Moving was fitted neatly on the side of the trailor in big dark blue letters. From the van a short man walked around from the drivers side. He was short, stubby almost and had no hair. His eyes were a green colour and he had a beard that suited him perfectly. He had a black work shirt on that had his name sewn onto the right upper corner. Arnie.
"Hey I'm Ava, I'm the girl that moved. "
"Okay. I'm Arnie. Lets get unload the trailor and then I will help you take it up to your room." He said matter of factly.
As they started unloading the van Ava began taking things inside the Darling Oak, setting it right inside the door. Luckily she didn't have much just the necessities she needed to live on her own. Once everything was unloaded she payed Arnie and thanked him, giving him an awkward hug. Running back inside the Darling Oak she noticed all of her stuff was gone from the lobby. Looking around she got worried it had been stolen.. But who would steal it, there was nobody around.
"Ava, I took all of your things up to your room and organized them how you like." Adremelech said in a proud manner as he walked out of the elevator.
"Oh? How did you get in my room my key is right..." Ava searched for her key in her back pack but couldn't find it. Looking up she saw Adremelech holding the key out to her.
"Here. You'll need this back." Adremelech handed her the key as if she had given it to him herself. Taking the key Ava stared at Adremelech not sure if she should be thankful or slightly terrified.
"Um thank you? How did you.." She started to ask.
"You asked me to watch over it before the van got here." Adremelech cut her sentence in half.
"Remember?"
"Um yeah.. I guess I remember. Well I'm going to go then. Thank you." Ava said slowly walking towards the elevators, keeping her eyes locked on Adremelech. Once in the elevator she clutched the key tight in her hand.
"That was so weird." Ava thought to herself. "How I like it? What does that even mean?"
Once to her room she opened the door quickly, and locked it once inside. She took off her shoes, set her backpack by the door and zipped up her jacket. Walking into the bathroom Ava flipped on the light and stood staring into the large oval mirror. "This is home now. This is home." Ava reminded herself out loud. After staring into the mirror for a long time she walked out and over to the bed. Taking out her cell phone from her jacket pocket she began scrolling through her Instagram feed; when she heard a knock on her door. Dropping her phone on the bed she walked over to the door and looked out the peep hole. It was Ezra. Opening up the door quickly she stood in front of him smiling.
"Hey Ava, mind if I come in?"
"Hey.. Um no come in." Ava said happily.
"Nice room. I was bored so I thought we could chill?" Ezra said in a friendly tone.
"Oh yeah why not? What do you wanna do?" Ava asked sitting on the bed.
"Well," Ezra said. "Wanna watch a movie? They are playing Star Wars right now."
"Okay, I have some food over in that fridge it was there when I got here if you want some." Ava said grabbing the remote and flipping on the large 60" T.V.
"Sweet. Thanks but I'm not really hungry. Mind if I sit?" Ezra looked at Ava and smiled.
"Go for it." Ava said patting the bed to the side of her. Pressing play the movie started with the Star Wars theme. Ezra scooted back onto the bed next to Ava and smiled.
"Here we go." Ava said.
