aubrey was starting to get bored of watching The Producers for the 3rd time in a row. she closed her laptop and laid down on her bed. her parents wont be home for another hour. she decided to go out to one of her favorite cafes by the end of the street.

she picked up a denim jacket and a laced dress. it wasn't raining anymore and the city got pretty hot again. she walked inside and ordered a cup of tea with a banana bread. she sat by the window and enjoyed her bread. the smell of coffee being brewed and the quietness of the cafe really helped her think.

at one point she remembered that she left a boy out in the rain with her favorite umbrella. oh god what was i thinking she said to herself.

"hi," a voice spoke. she was surprised but she didn't show any signs of it. "you left me with your umbrella this morning, do you remember?" it was that boy in the rain.

"mind if i join you?" he smiled. aubrey nodded. "you don't talk much do you? well okay then, i'm luke hemmings. you seem like a nice girl and i just want to get to know you and possibly, become friends." he gave his hand out for her to shake.

"i-i'm aubrey holden." she shook his hand.

"have i seen you before? do we go to the same school or something?" luke was very curious about this girl, he wanted to ask everything about her, he was somehow attracted to her.

"what school do you go to?" he asked again. "west high."

"oh yeah, i go there too."

"oh so that's why."

"yeah.."

"so do you go here often?" luke said breaking the awkward silence. "yeah, i really like this place, its cozy."

luke chuckled, seems like she doesn't know that the cafe belonged to his family. "what?" aubrey said.

"oh nothing" he gave her a smirk. aubrey blushed, she quickly got up and her feet was just about to take a step forward, but luke stopped her.

"where are you going?" he pulled her arm. "i really have to go, my parents are waiting."

luke gave her a sad look before actually letting her arm go. "okay... maybe we should do this again sometime."

"y-yeah." luke let go of her hand and she walked quickly out the door.

"see you in school," he whispered to himself. he felt as if she didn't like him very much, what did i do? he thought to himself. he rubbed the back of his neck and started to think about her name, it sounded quite familiar to him. holden... holden.. her last name echoed through his head.

"well, who's that?" his mum said. luke was too focused thinking about aubrey that he jumped at his mum's question. "oh God mum you scared me." his mum giggled. "is she your girlfriend?"

luke raised an eyebrow, "what makes you think that?"

"well, the way you look at her when you were both talking. and you seemed a bit sad after she left." his mum crossed her arms. "still, she's not my girlfriend mum."

"too bad, she was really nice."

"wait you talked to her?" luke walked closser to his mum.

"well yes, she ordered a cup of tea and a banana bread. and she actually said thank you after i gave it to her, and her smile is really pretty." for some reason, she remembered aubrey's name. "her name was aubrey right? like your grandmother."

"yeah..."

aubrey was walking back home, she was still blushing at the thought of luke not wanting for her to go and actually wanting her to stay. "hey," she turned her head to the left. a group of boys were looking at her as if she were their prey.  she walked even faster towards her house. "hey, slow down kitten." one of the boys pulled on her hand. "stay with us." he whispered in her ears.

"l-let go..." she struggled to escape his grasp, but it was no use. he was gripping her very tightly, he wrist was turning into a bright red color.

luckily, aubrey didn't walk too far away from the cafe yet, so luke was seeing every action the guy made and he went outside quick enough to help aubrey. "hey," he pushed the guy away. "she said let her go," the guys backed up, considering how tall luke was compared to them. "get lost." one of the other guys said.

luke held aubrey's hand as they walked away. "where do you live? i'll walk you there in case the guys disturb you again." aubrey blushed, she has never had a boy hold her hand before, let alone have a boy walk her home.

she told him her address and he happily walked her home, they had a short conversation about their favorite shoe brand. although luke did most of the talking, aubrey just smiled and was quite enjoying the sweet moment she had with him.

"okay, here we are." aubrey stopped in front of her house. aubrey was about to walk away and enter her house but luke stopped her by pulling her hand and giving her a kiss on her forehead.

"i really like you aubrey, i don't know what makes me feel this way, i just really want to get to know you more... w-would you like to go out on a date one day?" aubrey blushed harder.

"s-sure..." they were both quiet for a moment. "what?!" luke asked suddenly, he was too busy overthinking about what her answer was. "really?" he asked again.

"yeah... why w-wouldn't i go on a date with you..." she said quietly.

luke didn't believe it, he thought it was all in his head. "o-okay... we'll manage it tomorrow yeah? its already 6 PM and i'm pretty sure your parents are home." luke said, pointing to a car parked in aubrey's parking lot.

"b-bye. see you tomorrow." aubrey smiled, she gripped her umbrella tighly and walked to her doorstep, giving luke a small wave as he headed back to his house. he waved back and gave her a big friendly smile.

she walks in to find he parents rigt in front of her, a wide smile spreaded across their faces.
