I just lost a friend

I just lost a friend

It's such a simple phrase

But it's a got a painful haze

I've missed you forever

We might have been together

I've made too many promises

That I could never keep

You want to be anonymous

But I still can't seem to sleep

You can't help how you feel

But neither can I

And so we're left to deal

Hoping we can fly

Without starlight in our wings

We're doomed to drift forever

Some day we'll feel like kings

But we'll never be together

And that's okay with me.

Because never is forever.

It's one eternal round

With my heart upon my sleeve

We'll make it through together

Now that I'm upon the ground

I feel the heat of someone coming

While we wait here to be found

Slowly unbecoming

There's silence in my ears

Where once was rushing blood

I feel the numbness growing, just behind my eyes

Today I wasn't you, but rather us together

When memories flood our hearts

And we try to say goodbye

While I'll remember you

Still broken and forgotten

Please forget the truth

Because it made us who we are

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

This poem is about a lot of things. About stupid teenage heartbreaks and how easy it is to be caught up in life. It's meant to be taken at face value, but feel free to peel it apart, layer by layer. If you know me well, it should be easy for you to figure out what it's really about, but that doesn't really matter because it's writing and can be interpreted any way you want.

Thanks for everything. Let me know what you thought of this.
