Bethany
I woke up, hugging my bear to my chest as I rolled over, only to be greeted by bright sunlight seeping through the gap in my curtains. I slid out of bed and stretched, my muscles awakening from their slumber. I headed over to my dresser and picked up my phone, it's screen lighting up with a message.
The BFFL <3: You ready for today? :)
Today? Today. Today! Oh right! I mentally slapped myself as I replied.
Me: Of course! Haha.
The BFFL<3: I'll be over in 30 :)
I quickly gathered the outfit I had layed out last night, heading over to the bathroom in the hall to take a quick shower. After showering, I slipped into my clothes and looked at myself in the mirror before brushing my light brown hair and allowing it to cascade into its soft waves. I leaned over the counter, looking in closer as I applied a light line of eyeliner to make my green eyes pop and then added a touch of gold eye shadow before walking out of the bathroom. I slung my bag across my body before heading into the living room to be greeted by a hug from my best friend.
"Hey Bethany! You look great." I flipped my hair in a sassy way before laughing and responding.
"And when do I not?" I hugged back. "Hey Shawn. So let's get going. My parents are already out at work." Shawn nodded before opening the door for me then leading me out to his car.
"Alrighty, so since it's a Sunday, there aren't many places open. I say we go grab some ice cream then head back to my place for a movie marathon." He said as we drove down the quiet streets of Pickering in his old Jeep. The radio was playing No Control by One Direction and Shawn just had to go and show off with his amazing voice.
Waking up
Beside you I'm a loaded gun
I can't contain this anymore
I'm all yours, I got no control, no control
Powerless
And I don't care it's obvious
I just can't get enough of you
The pedal's down, my eyes are closed
No control
"Shawn, you love singing and you're crazy good at it, why not do something with it?" I'm always pushing Shawn to try and follow his love of music, but he always says he doesn't want to or that he doesn't think people will like him or some other lame excuse.
"Nah. Beth, I would never make it." And there he goes again. I sighed and looked at my phone screen, my eyes landing on Vine and YouTube.
"Why don't you at least try? Make a Vine and YouTube. Please? For me?" I turned a little in my seat and did the puppy dog eyes. Shawn looked at me from the corner of his eyes, a slight tinge of color creeping onto his cheeks as he parked the car.
"Oh look! We're here!" He deviated from the conversation as he got out of the car.
"You're horrible." I said as I got out and we walked up to the Dairy Queen. Shawn just laughed and gave me a side hug.
"I also happen to be your first and best friend." I rolled my eyes.
"Oh do not pull that card again on me, Mendes... although I do remember when I moved here back when I was four."
Flashback
I sat on the far side of the playground alone. It was my first day in kindergarten here in Canada. I didn't want mommy to leave me here, but she had to go do grown up work. I was playing with the bottom of my pretty new dress. Then, I felt a tug on my pigtail. I looked up and felt tears fill my eyes. I couldn't hold it back and started crying.
"Aw, please stop. I'm sorry, I didn't want to make you cry." The boy with brown hair and brown eyes said in a soft voice before I wiped my eyes. He held out his hand for me, so I took it and stood up. I sniffled a little. "I'm Shawn. Shawn Mendes."
"I'm Bethany Carson."
"Your eyes are a cool green. Wanna be best friends?" I couldn't help but laugh at this funny boy and smiled.
"Ok! Let's go play something, best friend!"
End of Flashback
"Hey, we were kids! My mom taught me better than to make a girl cry. I felt bad. Plus, you're eyes were a cool green when we were kids." Shawn put his hands up in surrender as he ordered two Oreo blizzards for us.
"You saying my eyes aren't a cool green anymore?" I said pouting as the lady handed us each a blizzard.
"No, no, no! Of course not! Your eyes are beautiful." Shawn blushed as soon as he realized what he had said and quickly led me back out to his car. I couldn't help but smile a little at his blushing as we drove back to his place, the first few minutes in silence.
"Fine."
"What?" He caught me off guard as I turned to look at him, a soft smiling tugging at the rockers of his lips.
"Fine. I'll make a Vine and a YouTube." I couldn't help the smile that grew across my face at Shawn's response as we arrived at his house and he pulled into the driveway. We entered his home, saying hi to his family who were all chilling in the living room before heading up to his room. His room evolved a lot over the last 13 years, and it was kind of hard to believe his room had once been filled with action figures and a TMNT bed spread. I took a seat on the bean bag that sat in the corner of his room as Shawn sat on his bed. I was busy making his accounts and then looked up at him once I was done.
"So? What would you like your first cover to be?"
