Chapter 17

Dream/Flashback

I ran through the woods trying to get away from the rival gang members. They were hot on my tail, about two minutes behind me and even though I'm in shape, I was caked from head to toe in mud and grass which made it really hard to run full speed through the woods. My only escape from them would be to climb a tree and hope for the best. I ran even faster, looking for a tree to climb.

Eventually, I saw a huge oak tree that offered a lot of cover in the dark. I made a B-line for the tree and with all my force, I jumped onto a big branch in the tree and then I climbed as fast as I could in the tree. I broke off a big limb to try and hide myself even more in the tree. Just as I got settled in the tree, I could hear the four men coming. What was annoying was that they wore the same mask and outfit so I couldn't tell who was who.

"If we don't find her, Jimmy will make this our last day." Goon 1 said

"Oh we'll find her, I found some tracks headed in the direction she was running." Goon 3 said.

I watched as he followed the tracks slowly towards the tree I was in. How could I have forgotten about that the ground leaves tracks? He looked up at the tree and then back at the ground.

"I know where she is." Goon 3 said looking back up at the tree.

"Alright I'll climb the tree and you guys surround the tree." Goon 4 said.

"Well the last time you climbed a tree, you couldn't get down so I'll do it." Goon 2 said while climbing the tree at a rapid pace.

The only way to get away from him is to jump and run but the only problem was that there's a huge chance I'd break my legs if I fell straight down. I looked down and saw he was about seven feet away from me. I threw the branch I used as cover as hard as I could at the goon climbing the tree then I took one look down and jumped.

As I was falling, I saw a small tree that was thin enough to bend but too green to break. I reached out to grab it as I was falling. Once I grabbed it, the tree immediately started to bend, causing me to "fall" towards the ground but at a slower pace. I was about seven feet from the ground so I decided to let go and fall the rest of the way. As I let go, the tree immediately shot back up like a catapult and then I landed on the ground.

"She's over there!" One of them shouted.

I looked over my shoulder and saw them running at me. I tried to run as fast as I could but I was tired from the long climb up the tree and all of the running. I felt a hand on my shoulder and before I knew it, I was facedown in the mud with a gun to my head.

"If you resist, I'll shoot." One of them said. Shortly after, my arms were grabbed by two of them and they made me walk with them while one of the goons walked ahead with a gun and the other walked directly behind me, also with a gun.

We kept walking until we came upon a van. As we approached it, a man came out of the vehicle and came to me.

"Long time no see Ryann, how's my favorite niece doing?"

"Well I was doing fine until your goons followed me home and caught me. What the hell do you want from me?" I said to my uncle with so much hatred."

"Oh nothing much, just only the location of where the seven million dollars that your father saved for you. I have better uses with that money than you so if I were you, I'd make things easier by just telling me where it is." He said while standing casually in front of me.

"Why would I tell you? That money belongs to me now."

"Then we're gonna have a little problem." He said while grabbing my chin and leaning his face about four inches apart. He knows that I liked my personal space so he was only doing this to piss me off. I stared him in the eyes will anger until I spat in his face.
